Blackberry Chia Jam

By Flora & Vino Leave a Comment

Easy blackberry chia seed jam to made on the stovetop with berries and chia seeds and naturally sweetened with lemon and maple syrup.

Blackberry Chia Jam in mason jar with spoons with blackberries and lemons scattered

After the Fourth of July, it always feels like we’re entering the height of summer.

Many of my friends are out of town and colleagues have out of office messages notifying the world that they are unavailable.

During the dog days of summer, the pace of life feels slower, which can be hard for someone like me that is attached to moving quickly.

Summer also makes me nostalgic for being a carefree kid who only needed to hold space for finishing my latest library book and chilling at the neighborhood pool.

As adults, we are asked to keep the velocity of our lives moving forward while simultaneously pressing pause to make time to relax.

So, if summer feels like a tug of war between a packed social calendar and reluctant relaxation, I get it.

What I’m working on is being very intentional with my time off, and really being present and in alignment with what the day is asking of me.

If it feels like a “push” day, then I do all of the things; I shoot the recipe, I write the post, I edit the photos, I teach the yoga, I do it done.

If it feels like a “pause” day, then I pull back on work and lean into other tasks, maybe even taking some time off.

They key for me is to not think about work when I’m relaxing and not think about relaxing when I’m working.

You know what I mean?

It’s all about presence.

With that said, I highly encourage you to give your full attention to the recipe I’m sharing today.

It’s super easy to make and the perfect way to use up extra blackberries in the refrigerator.

This Vegan Blackberry Chia Jam is made with just 5 ingredients on the stovetop for a sweet summer spread!

Easy strawberry chia seed jam to made on the stovetop with frozen fruit and chia seeds and naturally sweetened with lime and maple syrup.

Strawberry Chia Seed Jam served in mason jar with a spoon surrounded by fresh strawberries

This Strawberry Chia Seed Jam has been persistent in my recipes this past week.

In the past 7 days, it’s showed up in my Nut Butter & Jam Breakfast Quesadillas AND my SunButter & Jelly Brownies.

So I thought I might as well post it on the blog so it has a forever home here at F&V.

Because, and this is on record, I will love it forever.

It’s sweet, strawberry-y, and spreadable, with big strawberry chunks and a fantastic chia texture.

Oh, and it makes everything from breakfast to snacking to dessert more fun and delicious with minimal ingredients and cook time.

This Strawberry Chia Seed Jam is made with just 5 ingredients on the stovetop for a sweet summer spread!

Nut Butter & Jam Breakfast Quesadilla

By Flora & Vino 1 Comment

Sweet and satisfying breakfast quesadilla made on the stovetop with nut butter, homemade strawberry chia seed jam, granola, and coconut flakes.

Nut Butter & Jam Breakfast Quesadilla by Flora & Vino

What’s better than a peanut butter & jelly for breakfast?

A peanut butter & jelly in a quesadilla.

An adult-ish quesadilla served first thing in the AM.

I enjoyed these all last week and couldn’t wait to share them with you so I practically *begged* M to let me make him one.

When he finished the first one and asked for a second, my ego was doing a very hubris-saturated victory dance.

Friends, it’ *that* good, and that simple!

Yes, we share a love of sweet breakfast quesadillas and I can’t wait to share that love with you.

These Nut Butter & Jam Breakfast Quesadillas are made on the stovetop with nut butter, homemade strawberry chia seed jam, granola, and coconut flakes!

Let’s get quesadilla-ing!

Low Sugar Fig Jam & Apple Chips

By Flora & Vino Leave a Comment

This post is brought to you by Bare Snacks, but all words and eats are my own. Thanks for supporting the sponsors that keep me hungry!

Three ingredient fig jam made with fresh figs, lemon, and a drizzle of maple syrup. The perfect fall spread to top on toast, warm oatmeal, or yogurt bowls.

Low Sugar Fig Jam & Apple Chips by Flora & Vino

It’s getting colder, but I still haven’t turned on the heat in my place.

I wake up to a cool 68 degree living room, where I stumble to the couch, swaddle myself in blankets, and do my morning journaling while sipping on a matcha latte.

I kind of like it.

Lately I’ve been working on reducing my energy consumption.

Yep, I’ve been giving the dial knob on my Nest thermostat a bit of a breather.

Like not heating and cooling to a perfect 72 degrees, but instead ebbing and flowing with the changing fall temperatures.

This means embracing chilly mornings with sweaters and long pants and warmer afternoons with open windows and tank tops.

I’ve found a nice surrender and presence in accepting and adapting to the weather outside the window.

Ah, autumn.

I’ve also been embracing all of the seasonal fall produce, like fresh figs and apples.

This Low Sugar Fig Jam & Apple Chips is the naturally sweet fall snack that you need this fall!

Copycat “Jammed Yam”

By Flora & Vino Leave a Comment

Baked sweet potatoes stuffed with black beans, corn, raw veggies, avocado, and a squeeze of lime. Perfect for easy meal prep lunch or dinner!

Copycat "Jammed Yam" served on plate with spoon, half of a lime, and shredded cilantro with black beans and avocado on the side

I’ve *reallly* been missing some of my favorite takeout meals lately, guys.

On busy recipe testing days when the sink brims with dirty dishes, my most delicious form of self care was to hop in the car and leave it all behind.

Indulge me in a little pre-pandemic nostalgia.

I drove to grab dinner; usually takeout and always packed with plants I didn’t prepare.

Coming home with a warm meal someone else assembled always made the full sink feel a little less intimidating.

Anyway, one of my favorite spots to get a quick clean meal was Naked Lunch.

I ordered their signature “Jammed Yam” frequently.

It’s plant-based comfort food at its finest: a sweet and tender baked yam halve loaded with black beans, raw veggies, cooked corn, and fresh herbs.

I recreated it in this copycat “Jammed Yam” that’s easy to bake and build with yams, cooked black beans, and a mix of raw and cooked toppings.

Let’s jam a yam.

Jamaican Jerk Cauliflower Steaks & Rosé

By Flora & Vino 2 Comments

Vegan cauliflower steaks with a homemade Jamaican jerk seasoning and fresh squeezed orange. Serve with greens, grains, or protein of choice.

Jamaican Jerk Cauliflower Steaks served on plate of greens with lime and a fork and knife with a glass of rosé

I’ve been craving a big fancy meal lately.

The kind of meal you get dressed up for and spend hours devouring the courses.

Most of the time I’m the type of person who would choose a home-cooked meal over going out any day of the week.

Something about the helter-skelter of moving, though, has made me crave the simplicity and charm of eating out.

Partially for the food and also heavily because of the fact that I don’t have to do the dishes afterwards.

But instead of immediately jumping on Happy Cow seeking your next fix of plants, let’s make a fun cruciferous steak of our own.

These Jamaican Jerk Cauliflower Steaks & Rosé are an easy plant-based pairing to elevate your summer dinner plans!

By Flora & Vino Leave a Comment

No-sugar-added raspberry chia seed jam sweetened with orange and thickened with chia seeds. A refrigerator staple to spread on everything!

No-Sugar-Added Raspberry Chia Seed Jam in small jars with raspberries scattered and apple chips topped with peanut butter and jam

Happy almost Valentine’s Day, loves.

I’ve got an easy recipe for you today that’s fresh and festive.

You’re going to love this No-Sugar-Added Raspberry Chia Seed Jam!

I’ve kept this bright berry spread under the radar for a few months now, waiting to share it during citrus season when romance is in the air.

It’s thick, spreadable, naturally sweet, and requires only 4 ingredients and 20 minutes to mix up.

To be fair, I DID warn you about my current PB&J phase.

And who would I be to share a jam recipe without a sufficiently quirky peanut butter pairing?

Try these Apple Chip PB&J Bites for a fun grain-free and gluten-free twist on snacking.

PB Jam ‘N’ Yam Thumbprint Cookies

By Flora & Vino 4 Comments

1-bowl healthy cookies made with chickpeas, peanut butter, and Japanese yam. Sweetened with maple syrup and your favorite jam.

PB Jam 'N' Yam Thumbprint Cookies by Flora & Vino

Remember that time I made Spiced Cashew Chickpea Cookies and ate them all the time?

They’re my absolute favorite snack cookie because they’re so moist, low in sugar, packed with protein, and totally portable!

Well, after eating tons of those perfect little morsels on the go, there was one fateful day where I decided to sit down and spread a bit of jelly on top.

This made the cookies even more moist and delicious, so I’ve been dunking them in fruit spreads ever since.

I set out to create PB & Jam Thumbprint cookies to share my news finds, but found I had half of a steamed Japanese yam in the fridge,

And jam rhymes with yam, so…

PB Jam ‘N’ Yam Cookies happened.

I think you should make them happen, too.

Sweet & Spicy Tomato Jam

By Flora & Vino 3 Comments

Easy unique jam made with cherry tomatoes and simple ingredients that achieve the perfect balance of sweet and spicy. Perfect as the topping for any meal!

Sweet & Spicy Tomato Jam by Flora & Vino

When I first heard that tomatoes were actually a fruit (something about the whole seed situation classification), I was silently in denial.

Sure, you can say you’re a fruit, but I know who you REALLY are.

They just get along with vegetables too well.

Takes one to know one, right?

And then I made this Sweet & Spicy Tomato Jam, and, bam.

I’m pretty sure I’ll never think of tomatoes as a vegetable again.

Avocado & Cucumber Rolls with SunButter Sauce

By Flora & Vino Leave a Comment

Avocado & Cucumber Rolls wrapped in toasted sushi nori sheets with a creamy SunButter Sauce. Perfect for a date night meal!

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how I never really got back to “normal” after the pandemic.

I didn’t really need to, because my normal can be working in pajamas in the comfort of my own home.

Outside of teaching yoga once a week, climbing, and heading to our favorite coffee shop every Saturday, I otherwise don’t *need* to venture out.

During the pandemic, my house became my safe space, my place of work, and my workout studio.

I stopped attending hot yoga at the local studio (something at the time I couldn’t imagine living without), and started practicing exclusively at home.

So it was rather magical this weekend, when I attended my first hot yoga class in over 5 years during my 300 hr YTT program.

Sitting in an easy seat chanting with a chorus of of “OM” vibrating around me, tears prickled behind my closed eyelids.

THIS, I thought, is what yoga is about.

It’s nothing short of magical and it’s about me but it’s also about embodiment inside of community.

While I’m grateful for my strong personal practice at home, I’m remembering what drew me to yoga classes in the first place.

I’m so glad that I ventured outside of my comfort zone to learn, grow, and connect again; it’s been a while.

It’s also been a while since I’ve made sushi at home.

It’s interesting because sushi is both so simple and so complex at the same time.

It has a few parts that take some foresight, but if you take the time to plan, you’ll be very grateful that you did.

These Avocado & Cucumber Rolls are wrapped in toasted sushi nori sheets with a creamy SunButter Sauce.

It’s the perfect meal to make with others so dinner is a shared experience.
