Soba Noodles with Maple Miso Glazed Tempeh

By Flora & Vino 1 Comment

Vegan soba noodles with maple miso glazed tempeh, crisp vegetables, and a savory-sweet sauce. A healthy plant-based dinner in 30 minutes.

Soba Noodles with Maple Miso Glazed Tempeh served in bowl with chopsticks an sesame seeds

After another round of snow here in Maryland, I’m finding myself daydreaming about spring more than ever.

You know it’s been a long winter when 50 degrees feels downright balmy, like summer with a light jacket instead of a parka.

Between the cold and the renovations happening below us (hello, constant sawing and hammering), we’ve all been a little cooped up indoors.

No one is feeling this more than Flora, who is more than ready for spring too.

After months of shorter walks and hikes, she clearly needs a job…preferably one that involves long walks, sunshine, and supervising garden projects!

I’ve already started planning which flowers to plant this year, craving color and warmth where I can plant it.

Until the days are consistently warm, I’m bringing that fresh, seasonal energy into the kitchen with these Soba Noodles with Maple Miso Glazed Tempeh.

This cozy-yet-light plant-based dinner is full of nourishing ingredients, vibrant vegetables, and a sweet-savory maple miso glaze.

This dish manages to feel both grounding for winter but bright enough to welcome spring!

Sweet & Spicy SunButter Spinach Wrap

By Flora & Vino 1 Comment

Sweet and spicy SunButter spinach wrap with cranberries and sriracha. An easy vegan lunch or snack made with simple pantry ingredients.

Sweet & Spicy SunButter Spinach Wrap halved and stacked on plate

The snowstorm on the east coast left the world quiet and blinding bright white outside.

However, inside, it’s been a bit of chaos as M and I try to keep Flora busy with puzzles and inside activities.

It’s been unseasonably cold throughout much of the U.S. the past few weeks, so I’ve mostly been hibernating indoors with deep gratitude for the heat.

The days feel long and heavy lately and yet somehow January is slipping by oh so quickly with that strange mix of endurance and fleeting time.

This “snowed in” cabin fever feeling has given me eerie flashbacks to the pandemic, when everyone was stuck at home and practicing yoga online.

I take comfort in knowing that the darkest days are behind us and we get a little more sunlight each day.

This January has been all about finding comfort in small, grounding routines that are reproducible and good for you.

One of my favorite little acts of self-care lately has been making this Sweet & Spicy SunButter Spinach Wrap.

It’s made with creamy SunButter, fresh spinach, shredded carrots, and a hint of sriracha all wrapped up in a tortilla.

It’s simple, nourishing, and a little spark of warmth and heat on a cold winter day.

Let this wrap be a small reminder that even in the cold and blue days of winter, we can create something comforting and sustaining for ourselves.

Grab your favorite tortilla and let’s make Sweet & Spicy SunButter Spinach Wraps today!

SunButter Chocolate Chip Cookies

By Flora & Vino Leave a Comment

Allergy-friendly SunButter chocolate chip cookies that taste just like classic chocolate chip cookies with no peanuts required!

SunButter Chocolate Chip Cookies stacked on plate with glass of almond milk, santa hat, and evergreen tree

Every year as the holidays roll around, I find myself back in the kitchen baking a familiar mix of cozy favorites and new treats to share.

It’s one of my favorite traditions.

Setting aside a day to make a variety of cookies, packaging them up, and delivering little bundles of sweetness to the people and places that make our days brighter.

This year feels extra special as we’re sharing these cookies not only with friends, but also with M’s family visiting from Germany for the holidays.

These SunButter Chocolate Chip Cookies made the list immediately.

They’re soft, chewy, warmly nostalgic, and a little different in the best way thanks to the rich, nutty flavor of SunButter.

They’re the kind of cookie that feels right at home on a holiday cookie plate, no matter where it’s being shared.

If you love classic chocolate chip cookies but need a nut-free, vegan, and gluten-free option, these SunButter Chocolate Chip Cookies will be your new favorite.

They’re soft in the center, lightly crisp on the edges, naturally sweetened with coconut sugar, and packed with melty dark chocolate in every bite.

These cookies come together in one bowl with simple pantry staples and are perfect for school-safe treats, allergy-friendly baking, or everyday dessert cravings.

Bonus: they’re made with almond flour and oat flour for a wholesome, tender texture that still feels indulgent.

Flora & Vino 2025 Holiday Gift Guide

November 28, 2025 By Flora & Vino Leave a Comment

A collection of my current 2025 favorites to inspire meaningful gift ideas for you and yours this holiday season. Happy holidays!

Happy happy holidays, friends!

We’re gearing up here at F&V to host M’s family from Germany for the holiday season. Now that we have Flora (our Australian Shepherd), taking long international trips becomes all the more challenging. We’ve usually alternated on and off years to spend Christmas here with my family and in Germany with Marco’s family. This year was a “Germany” year, but, when you can’t bring yourself to Germany…bring Germany to you! (That’s what they say, right?!) I’m excited to spend the holidays showing them some of my favorite American traditions for Christmas and New Years just as they have shared their German traditions with me over the years. I got the “Christmas box” out before Thanksgiving and will be put a lot more time and thought into decorating this year since we’ll be hosting!

I also started my gift list early, because I have so many ideas! Here are a few of my favorite 2025 discoveries that I want to share with you this year!. Check them out to see if they might light up you and yours. For more great gift ideas, check out my 2023 Holiday Gift Guide and 2024 Holiday Gift Guide. Wishing you a very safe, happy, and healthy holiday season!

Cranberry Chickpea Salad Sandwich

By Flora & Vino 1 Comment

Cranberry Chickpea Salad Sandwiches made with cranberries, walnuts, and sliced celery. Add to sourdough bread with toppings!

Cranberry Chickpea Salad Sandwich stacked on white plate

The end of the year always feels like a strange mix of gratitude and burnout, doesn’t it?

Between yoga teacher training weekends, future wedding and family planning, and wrapping up business for the year, it’s been….full.

I’m feeling both super thankful and a little stuck in the messy in-between-ness.

Yoga has taught me that that both can be true; to feel joy and exhaustion at the same time.

I have to remind myself that balance doesn’t always come from doing more, but from pausing and nourishing myself in small, intentional ways.

Something M is constantly reminding me is that when life serves us chaos, I don’t need to serve us a five course meal.

So on weeks when life feels full and I’m craving simplicity, I turn to recipes like these Cranberry Chickpea Salad Sandwiches.

It’s easy, protein-packed, and ready in minutes.

A simple sammy can be a gentle reminder that feeding yourself well doesn’t have to be complicated, even when everything else feels like it is.

So if you’re feeling that same end-of-year overwhelm; that delicate pull between slowing down and showing up, I see you.

Let this simple sandwich be a moment of reprieve from the holiday happy and haggard.

Take a deep breath, step into your kitchen, and make something that nourishes you without asking for much in return.

Let’s make Cranberry Chickpea Salad Sandwiches!

Black Sesame Noodle Bowl

Cozy Black Sesame Noodle Bowl made with soba noodles and oven-baked vegetables in a delicious Black Sesame Butter Sauce.

Black Sesame Noodle Bowl served in bowl topped with cilantro and sesame seeds

Happy Halloween week, friends!

It’s funny, we’ve lived in our condo for about 4 years now and we’ve never seen a solitary trick or treater.

It’s not for lack of trying!

The first year I thought it might be a fluke because we’re at the dead end of the street with our lights off.

After that year, I made sure to leave the porch light on and the carved pumpkins street facing with a fresh tea light candle in the center.

Still, no trick or treaters.

There are *definitely* kids in our neighborhood, but, for whatever reason, they don’t stop at our house.

Maybe it’s haunted and we don’t know it.

That doesn’t stop me from buying a small bag of candy each year…just in case.

This week we had M’s friend over for pumpkin carving and fall food.

Every year I romanticize pumpkin carving…until I’m up to my elbows with pumpkin guts and the living room floor is littered with seeds and orange goop.

It takes two to carve a pumpkin, right?

Or, at least, it does in my house.

I usually delegate all of the knife work to M (who is less concerned about stabbing himself with pointy objects) and I take over the scraping.

The scraping is not for the faint of heart, though, because it takes stamina and arm muscle and a high tolerance to handling slime.

But the end result is always idyllic, right?

All those orange jacks grinning and glowing from within on the patio.

These Black Sesame Noodle Bowl will make YOU glow from within this fall season!

These cozy Black Sesame Noodle Bowl are made with soba noodles and oven-baked vegetables in a delicious Black Sesame Butter Sauce.

I made mine for a dramatic dinner to celebrate Halloween week!

Coconut Curry Rice Bowl

By Flora & Vino Leave a Comment

Coconut Curry Rice Bowl made with curried coconut Jasmine rice topped with charred vegetables and seared tofu in a chili garlic sauce.

This week we checked out a new coffee house in our area on a weekday morning before work.

It felt like a bit of a hassle at the time, because we (read:I), get into these routines that feel nonnegotiable.

Like, how am I supposed to brave the Maryland traffic without a coffee at 7 AM?!

The horror.

To be fair, I do have a successful morning routine at home which involves coffee, meditation, gratitude, movement, and planning my day.

Oh, and of course getting to at least level “Amazing” on the NY Times App Spelling Bee game, because Genius is just too much work.

Next I walk with M and Flora and then we eat breakfast and I set up for my day, either a photoshoot, recipe testing, or computer day.

It’s true, we have fine-toned our mornings to achieve the intersection of maximum productivity and enjoyment.

However, I think it’s important to remember that we’re actively *choosing* this routine, or otherwise everything just becomes a chore.

That’s why breaking the routine for something like a coffee date felt so disruptive, rebellious, and in the end, fun.

So, your assignment for the week from your friend Lauren is to disrupt your routine a little.

Because you create your routine, your routine doesn’t create you.

And you always have the authority to change it.

For example, perhaps this week we turn our rice a vibrant yellow.

You rebel, you!

This Coconut Curry Rice Bowl is made with curried coconut Jasmine rice topped with charred vegetables and seared tofu in a chili garlic sauce.

It’s delicious for a cozy dinner as the weather transitions from summer to fall!

Buffalo Tempeh Sandwich

By Flora & Vino Leave a Comment

Buffalo Tempeh Sandwich made with marinated tempeh on toasted bread topped with lettuce, tomato, herbed nut cheese, and avocado.

Buffalo Tempeh Sandwich stacked on white plate

How was your Fourth of July this year and long holiday weekend?

We took a beautiful 3 mile hike with Flora that left her tongue hanging out the side of her mouth like the happiest little dope.

After that, we visited our friends for a cookout in the afternoon and evening.

I brought my Vegan Maple Baked Beans to share with friends as a contribution to our feast.

We made it home before the fireworks (that was the goal!) so Flora was safe within the walls of our condo and the roar of  AC that dulled the noise of exploding lights.

So seemed slightly concerned about several of the bigger “BOOMs”, but nothing that we couldn’t control with positive reinforcement and lots of treats.

The rest of our weekend was busy, too!

We met my parents for my mom’s birthday for dinner on Saturday, and then visited my cousin on Sunday for her gender reveal party (it’s a girl!!!).

So, there was a a lot to celebrate early this July and so many things to be grateful for.

Including bread and everything that goes in between it.

Yes, it’s sandwich summer here at F&V and my latest favorite sandwich is this Buffalo Tempeh Sandwich.

I love that it’s easy to meal prep for our rolling summer schedules for a quick and intentional lunch.

This Buffalo Tempeh Sandwich is made with marinated tempeh on toasted bread topped with lettuce, tomato, herbed nut cheese, and avocado.

Cold SunButter Soba Noodles

By Flora & Vino 1 Comment

Cold SunButter Soba Noodles served with raw crunchy vegetables in an easy SunButter Sauce. Perfect for a light summer meal!

Cold SunButter Soba Noodles served in bowl with chopsticks topped with cilantro and sesame seeds

For context, I don’t sweat a lot.

I don’t have the kind of body that slips and slides on their yoga mat in a hot vinyasa class.

Or the kind of body that drips sweat from a low impact home workout with weights.

I’m not telling you this to brag about how I don’t sweat, I glisten.

I’m telling you this so you’ll understand how humid it is when I say I start sweating *immediately* when Flora and I left the house for our morning walk today.

By the time we got home around 7:55 AM, my face was slick with moisture and my freshly washed and dried hair was in need of re-washing.

And poor Flora didn’t look much better, panting like she’d run miles instead of leisurely walking for…one.

There’s been a fair share of memes on the Internet lately comparing he DMV to a bath tub, or, my personal favorite, a swamp.

And they’re very accurate.

So, the muse of my food recipes lately is a temperature…cold.

Anything chilled, no-bake, and not heated is at the top of my TO EAT list right now in mid July.

These Cold SunButter Soba Noodles are served with raw crunchy vegetables in an easy SunButter Sauce.

This noodle bowl is perfect for a light summer meal!

Easy Vegan Pasta Salad

By Flora & Vino 1 Comment

Easy Vegan Pasta Salad made with your favorite noodles and raw vegetables in a simple red wine vinaigrette. Perfect for summer meal prep!

Easy Vegan Pasta Salad served on plate with fork and glass of water with blue and white striped towel

This coming weekend is the second meeting of my 300 hr yoga teacher training, which also is technically my *first* weekend because I missed the first due to sickness.

I’ve found myself planning, replanning, and agonizing over the details of work, life, and yoga this week, wanting everything to be *just so* for a successful weekend.

I’m nitpicking at my clothing, my accessories, my gear; the small things that I bring that I feel are in my sphere of control.

The training is forcing me out of my routine, out of the state of Maryland, out of my comfort zone.

In a sense, it feels very much so out of my control.

But I try to keep reminding myself that there is no perfect yoga pants, morning routine, or notebook that will make this weekend EASY.

And it’s good to do HARD things frequently in life, right?

The one thing I know that I’ll need is a quick healthy lunch that doesn’t need reheating, assembly, or fussing.

And contrary to what I said about doing hard things, I like my food choices and recipes to be without a doubt easy!

This Easy Pasta Salad is made with your favorite noodles and raw vegetables in a simple red wine vinaigrette.

It’s perfect for summer meal prep, camping trips, weekends away, and anytime you’re craving something simple and fresh.
