Date-Sweetened Donuts with Chocolate Frosting by Flora & Vino

Hi, friends.

It’s been a while since we last chatted.

June has been an absolute whirlwind for me and I can’t quite believe just *how* much has changed in the past two weeks.

For one, I’m moving!

I’m in the process of packing boxes and making plans to move to Maryland with M.

Secondly, I’m reconnecting with friends and family in a major way; scheduling dinners and hikes and hugs.

After a *very* trying 2020, all of this feels like a new beginning, a clean slate, a fresh start.

But between all of the positive changes in life, summer keeps running on, hot summer days spilling into cool summer mornings.

And what do you know, this weekend is dad’s day!

Let’s put all of the busy-ness aside for a second and celebrate dad, OK?

These Date-Sweetened Donuts with Chocolate Frosting are just what any man in your life needs this Father’s Day.

They’re totally vegan, gluten-free, and refined-sugar-free with a cake-y interior and a 2-ingredient chocolate ganache!

Vegan Apple Cider Donuts

This post is brought to you by Bare Snacks, but all words and eats are my own. Thanks for supporting the sponsors that keep me hungry!

Vegan apple cider donuts made with oats, almond butter, and apple cider finished with a refined-sugar-free cinnamon and apple chip dusting!

Vegan Apple Cider Donuts served on plate by Flora & Vino

Did you learn any languages during quarantine this year?

For the past few weeks I’ve been learning German.

Well, for me, it’s actually a lot of re-learning because I took three solid year of German in high school.

Sprechen Sie Deutsch?

I’ve always struggled with languages, honestly.

I flunked out of Italian in college, and, to fulfill the language requirement, managed to pass two semesters of French that I have no memory of.

No, really, I must have tucked my knowledge of French in short term memory because it’s *all* gone now, down to the very last amour.

German must have stuck somehow, because words and phrases are starting to come back to me.

And, it’s fun having an app to motivate me with epic winning streaks.

Every night around 9 PM my DuoLingo app notifies me with a banner text message that it’s time to practice German.

I play until I have no “hearts” left, addicted to the “briiiiiing” signifying a correct answer and the wiggly dance the owl mascot makes when I hit a new goal.

I also retaught how to make donuts– because it’s been a second (and by a second, I mean years) since my last donuts recipe on the blog.

These Vegan Apple Cider Donuts are made vegan and gluten-free with oat flour, almond flour, almond butter, and apple cider.

Finish them off with a sweet refined-sugar-free dusting of coconut sugar and an apple chip crumble!

Sehr gut!

Easy Maple Spiced Nuts

By Flora & Vino Leave a Comment

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Safeway. All opinions are 100% my own.

Simple spiced nuts baked with cinnamon and nutmeg sweetened with coconut sugar and maple syrup. Bake for a holiday appetizer or gift!

Easy Maple Spiced Nuts served in a bowl surrounded by gourds by Flora & Vino

Wait, how is it October?

On my neighborhood walk yesterday, M and I meandered through the neighborhood to check out the Halloween decorations.

There were plenty of pumpkins and on doorsteps and cob webs in windows.

One of the houses near the edge of my complex is *really* into decorating.

Multiple scarecrows, pumpkins, ghosts, and ghouls demanded attention from the lawn and sidewalk, making it impossible to walk by without taking notice.

As hyped decorations as they are, they seem to be equally as disinterested in the clean up.

To the right of the playful Halloween scene lie a heap of Christmas nutcrackers, lights on strings, and fake fir trees.

And it’s been there since last December.

Laugh out loud.

Whether you have your Halloween or Christmas decor on standby or not, the holidays are coming!

So here’s a quick recipe that’s bound to make you feel cozy this fall and winter.

These Easy Maple Spiced Nuts are easy enough to make in 30 minutes for a sweet crunchy snack, dessert, or appetizer.

Vegan Pumpkin Donuts with SunButter Maple Frosting

By Flora & Vino 6 Comments

Pumpkin donuts made with almond flour and pumpkin purée naturally sweetened with maple syrup. Frost with an easy SunButter maple frosting!

Vegan Pumpkin Donuts with SunButter Maple Frosting served on white plate with one in half

It’s Halloween Eve!

Do you have any spooky traditions that you do every year?

Nada over here.

I have heirloom pumpkin on the stoop and a candy-filled ceramic pumpkin bowl perched by the door in anticipation of trick-or-treaters at the new place.

Growing up, my parents used to get us donuts and apple cider to snack on before the trick-or-treaters showed up.

I’m not sure if that’s just a my family thing or if it’s a your family thing, too, but for this reason, I always associate donuts with Halloween!

There’s nothing much better than sweet circles in seasonal flavors, right?

These Vegan Pumpkin Donuts with SunButter Maple Frosting are just what you need for fall.

They’re vegan, gluten-free, and refined sugar free with a delicious 3-ingredient maple-sweetened SunButter based frosting!

Vegan Chocolate Donuts

Vegan chocolate donuts made with oat flour and naturally sweetened with maple syrup. Topped with a decadent 2-ingredient chocolate ganache.

Vegan Chocolate Donuts on white plates with donuts on cooling rack with knife

I’m feeling pretty impressed with myself today, friends.

I’m over here metaphorically twirling my index finger in the air ringed with round baked goods.

Behold!

The first donut recipe on Flora & Vino.

Of course it had to be chocolate.

These Vegan Chocolate Donuts with Chocolate Hazelnut Ganache are ready in just 15 minutes with whole food ingredients you can feel good about!

I’ve had donuts on the brain for a while now, ever since a friend reached out asking if I had a go-to recipe to share.

At the time I didn’t, and honestly donuts were something I had dismissed from my diet as being too…not F&V.

I mean, there’s no way an oil-free, gluten free, refined sugar free, and vegan donut could exist, right?

Unless it could.

These Vegan Chocolate Donuts are a rare bird and you’re going to want to stop, stare, devour, and do it all over again.

Chocolate SunButter Hummus

By Flora & Vino 1 Comment

Indulge in creamy Chocolate SunButter Hummus! Perfect as a healthy dessert dip or spread, made with chickpeas, cocoa, and sweet maple syrup.

Chocolate SunButter Hummus served in bowl surrounded by plate of pretzels and strawberries with hand dipping strawberry

When the groundhog saw his shadow this year, I fully embraced the news as my cue to keep hibernating just a little longer.

This harsh winter has had me leaning into cozy nights, comfort food, and meaningful moments at home.

Like gathering on the couch with M to watch the Super Bowl halftime show this past weekend.

Seeing Bad Bunny take that stage felt electric and unifying; I loved his message and the way his performance brought people together in celebration and joy.

Even in the chill of February, it reminded me how powerful shared experiences can be.

For Valentine’s Day, we’re keeping that same energy by spending the evening with another couple, making homemade pasta from scratch.

I’m predicting it will be equal parts messy, delicious, and heart-filling.

Still, I can’t help but daydream about the warmer days ahead and everything spring promises: longer light, budding blooms, and more reasons to gather outdoors.

In the meantime, I’m channeling that anticipation into simple, shareable recipes like this Chocolate Hummus.

It’s something sweet, nourishing, and perfect for passing around.

In fact, I’m bringing a batch to a friend’s daughter’s first birthday this Monday!

I love the idea of celebrating life’s little milestones with a wholesome treat everyone can dip into together.

This Chocolate SunButter Hummus is a healthy dessert dip or spread, made with chickpeas, cocoa, and sweet maple syrup.

Apple Butter Truffles

By Flora & Vino 1 Comment

No-bake vegan apple butter truffles made with almond flour, warm spices, and dark chocolate. An easy gluten-free holiday dessert!

Vegan Apple Butter Truffles in two bowls stacked

The house is slowly starting to feel like Christmas.

We’re in the middle of getting everything ready to host M’s parents and brothers visiting from Germany for the holidays, and I can already feel the anticipation building.

I’ve been deep-cleaning, arranging furniture, and making lists of everything I want to cook and share with them.

We don’t have our tree up just yet, but the stockings are already hanging, and I’m playing Christmas music every chance I get.

That means while cooking, cleaning, and recipe testing alike!

There’s something so special about sharing my American holiday traditions with M’s family for the first time, and it’s making this season feel even more magical.

In true holiday fashion, I’ve already started testing cozy, shareable treats for when everyone arrives, and these Apple Butter Truffles were one of the very first recipes I made.

They feel like the perfect welcome dessert: simple, festive, warmly spiced, and made for sharing from a platter by the fire with mugs of hot cocoa or mulled wine in hand.

If fall coziness could be rolled into a bite-sized dessert, this would be it.

These truffles are rich, spiced, naturally sweetened, and coated in a glossy layer of dark chocolate for the ultimate no-bake treat.

They’re everything I love about the season wrapped into one simple recipe: warm cinnamon, subtle nutmeg, and the slow-simmered flavors of apple butter in every bite.

These truffles are perfect for holiday gatherings, edible gifting, or a little something sweet to keep in the fridge for the busy days ahead.

Best of all, they come together with just one bowl, require no baking, and can easily be made gluten-free and refined sugar-free depending on your chocolate choice!

SunButter Chocolate Chip Cookies

By Flora & Vino Leave a Comment

Allergy-friendly SunButter chocolate chip cookies that taste just like classic chocolate chip cookies with no peanuts required!

SunButter Chocolate Chip Cookies stacked on plate with glass of almond milk, santa hat, and evergreen tree

Every year as the holidays roll around, I find myself back in the kitchen baking a familiar mix of cozy favorites and new treats to share.

It’s one of my favorite traditions.

Setting aside a day to make a variety of cookies, packaging them up, and delivering little bundles of sweetness to the people and places that make our days brighter.

This year feels extra special as we’re sharing these cookies not only with friends, but also with M’s family visiting from Germany for the holidays.

These SunButter Chocolate Chip Cookies made the list immediately.

They’re soft, chewy, warmly nostalgic, and a little different in the best way thanks to the rich, nutty flavor of SunButter.

They’re the kind of cookie that feels right at home on a holiday cookie plate, no matter where it’s being shared.

If you love classic chocolate chip cookies but need a nut-free, vegan, and gluten-free option, these SunButter Chocolate Chip Cookies will be your new favorite.

They’re soft in the center, lightly crisp on the edges, naturally sweetened with coconut sugar, and packed with melty dark chocolate in every bite.

These cookies come together in one bowl with simple pantry staples and are perfect for school-safe treats, allergy-friendly baking, or everyday dessert cravings.

Bonus: they’re made with almond flour and oat flour for a wholesome, tender texture that still feels indulgent.

Applesauce Gingerbread Loaf

By Flora & Vino Leave a Comment

Cozy up with this Vegan Applesauce Gingerbread Loaf that’s moist, warmly spiced, and naturally sweetened with a maple cream cheese frosting.

Applesauce Gingerbread Loaf topped with vegan cream cheese frosting served on plates with forks

Dear friends, I have finally given up ice cream for the season.

I know, I know.

Ice cream is one of my top desserts and typically I eat it all year round.

But this time of year when I take staying warm as seriously as I do content creation, I have to ask myself, isn’t the ice cream a *little* contradictory?

If you can eat all of the cold things and stay warm this season, I envy you and you are magic.

But if you are like me and need to actively work to stay warm, let’s make a pact to not cool ourselves out unnecessarily.

So I’ve given up ice cream in an effort to eat seasonal warm baked goods, and, hopefully support my wallet (those vegan ice creams aren’t cheap!).

If you’ve been craving something warm, comforting, and lightly spiced, this Vegan Applesauce Gingerbread Loaf is exactly what you need this season.

Moist, tender, and naturally sweet, it’s the kind of loaf that fills your kitchen with the smell of cinnamon and ginger the moment it comes out of the oven.

Whether you’re looking for a sweet breakfast, an afternoon snack with tea, or a cozy dessert to share with friends or family, this loaf has you covered.

The simple maple cream cheese frosting takes it to the next level, adding just enough sweetness to make each slice feel indulgent (without being overwhelming!).

It’s easy to make, forgiving, and entirely plant-based, so you can feel good about enjoying a slice (or two!) any time you need a little comfort and warmth.

Rainbow Roasted Carrots with SunButter Sauce

By Flora & Vino Leave a Comment

Rainbow Roasted Carrots meet a creamy SunButter Sauce in this easy vegan recipe. Perfect for weeknight dinners or healthy holiday sides.

Rainbow Roasted Carrots with SunButter Sauce served on rectangular platter with fork and spoon and lime

As the days get shorter and the air turns crisp, I find myself slipping into full-on hibernation mode.

In mid-November.

Tell me, is it ever too soon for cozy sweaters, warm drinks, and anything roasted or comforting on our plates?

Speaking of soon, I do see a lot of people on social media already putting up Christmas trees, mistletoe, and stockings.

I’m not quite there yet.

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I like to celebrate each holiday at a time.

After Halloween, I like to focus on Thanksgiving before we get to the Christmas decor!

But there’s something about this season that makes me crave simple, nourishing meals that feel like a hug from the inside out.

Rainbow roasted carrots feel equal parts cozy and celebratory.

You can bet that the day after Thanksgiving I’ll be rocking green and red, but until then, I’ll be roasting carrots.

Now that the weather is chilly, I love tossing a rainbow of carrots on a baking sheet and watching them caramelize to perfection in the oven.

Each hue, golden yellow, deep purple, and vibrant orange has its own natural sweetness and charm.

Drizzle them with a creamy Organic SunButter sauce, and suddenly your everyday side becomes something special.

These Rainbow Roasted Carrots with SunButter Sauce is simple enough for weeknights but beautiful enough for your holiday table!
