Easy low-sugar allergy fighting acai bowl with anti-inflammatory acai, pineapple, berries, and bee pollen. Perfect for a warm weather breakfast or snack.
Do you have the seasonal sniffles around this time of year?
We had the windows open almost all weekend, letting the perfect 70 degree breeze waft through the condo, tickling my photography gear and paper planner.
It was all fine and good until I woke up this morning stuffy and puffy, the price for luxuriating in the spring air.
This Allergy Fighting Acai Bowl is just what we need to ease any inflammation this season.
It’s packed with my favorite anti-inflammatory fruits that will sooth your suffering and satisfy your tastebuds.
If nothing else, it tastes and looks amazing to boot.
All you need is 10 minutes, a few cups of colorful fruit, and some topping intrigue.
My Allergies Ode
Pollen and I go way back.
First there was the denial stage.
Back in high school when my favorite after school activity roller-blading, I remember zipping through the long pollen strands on wheels, fists full of tissues to stop and blow my running nose after each turn of the cul de sac.
Then there was the medicated stage.
This went through college and joining the work force, where I adopted the “ain’t nobody got time for that” mentality towards the whole affair.
I treated my eyes nose and throat with prescription meds before the season started and long after it ended to avoid as much of the symptoms as possible.
And then there’s my current phase: acceptance?
I’m trying to do what I can to fight my annual flair up naturally; the allergy fighting smoothie bowl phase.
Now, I’m not a license medial professional, but if this smoothie bowl happens to make me feel better, who am I to argue?
What You Need to Make an Acai Bowl
So what are these allergy fighting foods and how do we enjoy them in ice cream form?
The acai berry contains powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
If you’ve never used acai before, you can find the packets in the frozen fruit section at your grocery.
Like acai, fresh berries (I used blueberries and strawberries) contain antioxidants that promote anti-inflammatory effects.
Then we have sweet fleshy pineapple, containing bromelain, also known for its anti-inflammatory properties.
If you choose to top your smoothie bowl with a bit of bee pollen, these golden pellet contain several compounds that may also reduce inflammation.
Sunflower seeds, with their array of health benefits, are also linked to reduced inflammation, so drizzle your SunButter accordingly!
The Inspiration for This Bowl
While I dedicate this smoothie bowl to my seasonal allergies, its aesthetics were born in California.
While visiting this past March for Expo West we met Dan’s cousin and his cousin’s wife at a trendy brunch place in Santa Monica called The Beehive.
Still on east coast time, I ordered a kale salad because my stomach and brain was way past breakfast.
But that was before I saw the epic acai bowl that our friends ordered.
The waitress sat the oversized bowl down in the center of the table, a perfect purple icy mound speckled with berries and bee pollen and coconut.
YUM.
I unabashedly picked up my phone to document, announcing that I just might have to recreate it for the blog.
So, here it is.
How to Serve Your Banana-Free Acai Bowl
This Allergy Fighting Acai Bowl is fruity, fun, and creamy.
This bowl isn’t just for spring time, so enjoy it anytime you’re craving something refreshing, sweet, and nutritionally dense.
I usually add a scoop of vanilla protein powder to mine for additional protein and pizazz.
For toppings, I went with The Beehive inspired combination of berries, shredded coconut, SunButter, and a bit of bee pollen.
Add your own for fun variations!
The addition of SunButter makes this bowl super creamy with a spoonful of healthy seedy fats while also maintaining an allergen-friendly recipe for anyone avoiding nuts.
I love to enjoy mine as a beautiful breakfast or post-workout snack to refuel and recharge.

Allergy Fighting Acai Bowl
- Total Time: 10 mins
- Yield: 1-2 servings
- Diet: Vegan
Description
Allergy fighting acai bowl with anti-inflammatory acai, pineapple, berries, and bee pollen. Perfect for a warm weather breakfast or snack.
Ingredients
- 1/4 – 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk
- 2 packets frozen unsweetened acai
- 1 cup frozen pineapple
- 1/4 cup frozen berries (I used blueberry!)
- 1–2 scoops vanilla protein powder (optional)
- 2 TBSP Organic SunButter
Toppings
- sprinkle of bee pollen
- fresh berries
- shredded coconut
- Organic SunButter
Instructions
- Add the almond milk, frozen acai, frozen pineapple, frozen berries, optional protein powder, and SunButter to a high-speed blender.
- Blend everything on low, slowly increasing the blender speed, using a toggle to push the fruit down. Continue blending in this fashion, scraping down sides as needed, adding a little extra almond milk as needed to get the blades moving. It will take a few minutes to achieve the thick and creamy smoothie bowl consistency.
- Taste and add more pineapple for sweetness or SunButter for creaminess.
- Divide the mixture between bowls and enjoy immediately garnished with desired toppings– I used bee pollen, fresh berries, shredded coconut, and more SunButter.
