Easy apple butter stovetop oats sweetened with apple butter and dressed up for fall with a crunchy seed and nut blend. Perfect for an easy breakfast.
Happy Fall, officially.
I wore long sleeves for the first time yesterday while Dan and I walked around Old Town Alexandria for a Wellness + Fitness Festival and when the wind picked up on the waterfront I felt that deep sense of renewal that comes with changing seasons.
Also that stubborn resilience of the human condition.
Chilly weather, come at me, I’m wearing a long sleeved shield, yo.
Other things that make me feel nourished and warm on colder mornings (like today– 59 degrees and rainy!) are big bowls of warm oatmeal.
I enjoyed overnight oats all summer long for a quick grab and go breakfast, but now I’m ready to stand over the stove top for a few to get warm, how about you?
These Apple Butter Stovetop Oats are the perfect naturally sweet fall breakfast to keep the chill out and the cheer in.
This fresh fall mix of seasonal apples, dried fruit, nuts, and seeds comes together in just 10 minutes to fuel your day!
Try Apple Butter in Oats
If you’ve been hanging out here for a while, you know that I LOVE me some apple butter for fall (and all year round).
When we visited my extended family in Indiana, my aunt always handed us jars of homemade apple butter in Ball canning jars.
After when we twisted its pop top open at home, that sweet golden brown spread always went way. too. fast.
Once I started grocery shopping for myself, I sought out a store-bought apple butter alternative so I didn’t have to rely on my aunt’s cute little jars all year round.
My Favorite Apple Butter
I stumbled upon this Eden Foods Organic Apple Butter and immediately fell in love with it because this sweet spread is free of any sugar or additives.
It’s just apples, guys!
Each glass jar has four pounds of apples and a small amount of our organic apple juice concentrate simmered down the sweet perfection.
It’s perfect for spreading onto toast, waffles, pancakes, yogurt, or of course…oatmeal.

Swaps and Substitutions
These Apple Butter Stovetop Oats aren’t for the fall faint of heart, friends.

Add diced apple straight into the oatmeal mixture to create more of an apple pie feel, or omit the apple entirely if you’d prefer your oats to be smooth.

How to Serve Apple Butter Stovetop Oats
These Apple Butter Stovetop Oats are perfect for to fuel for your fall day!
I love mine with a lot of texture on top in the form of roasted nuts and seeds and sweet dried fruit.
Try adding a drizzle of peanut or almond butter while the oatmeal is still warm and stir it in for extra healthy fats and protein.
Double or triple the recipe to serve more or enjoy this breakfast solo.
I love enjoying a bowl as a quick and nutritious workweek breakfast.
Enjoy!

Description
Easy apple butter stovetop oats sweetened with apple butter and dressed up for fall with a crunchy seed and nut blend. Perfect for an easy breakfast.
Ingredients
Apple Butter Stovetop Oats
- 1/2 cup gluten-free old-fashioned rolled oats
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
- 2 tsp chia seeds
- 1/2 sweet apple, diced into small squares (optional)
- 1–2 TBSP Eden Foods Organic Apple Butter
- 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
Toppings
- 1 TBSP Eden Foods Pumpkin Seeds
- 1 TBSP Eden Foods Roasted Almonds
- 1 TBSP Eden Foods Dried Wild Blueberries
- 1 TBSP Eden Foods Dried Cranberries
- 1 TBSP nut butter (optional but recommended!)
Instructions
- Add the oats, almond milk, chia seeds, cinnamon, and diced apple to a saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring the mixture to a low-boil, then reduce the heat to medium/medium-low and simmer for 10 minutes, until all of the oats have absorbed the almond milk and the apples are soft and tender. Add more almond milk as needed to reach desired consistency.
- Stir in 1-2 Tablespoons of apple butter and taste to reach your desired sweetness. I like to add 1 tablespoon directly to the oats and another tablespoon as a topping.
- Transfer the contents to a bowl and top the oats with pumpkin seeds, roasted almonds, dried blueberries, dried cranberries, and a spoonful of nut butter.

Best oatmeal I’ve ever had! I didn’t use chia seeds and it was fine. I used unsweetened vanilla almond milk — added extra flavor. Don’t skip the almond butter!
