Chocolate Cherry Smoothie Bowl

By Flora & Vino 8 Comments

Chocolate cherry smoothie bowl with almond milk, frozen cherries, berries, chocolate protein powder, raw cacao, and plenty of sweet toppings!

Chocolate Cherry Smoothie Bowl served in bowls with spoons topped with cherries, cacao nibs, shredded coconut, and granola with a spoon surrounded by toppings

I kind of feel like a nomad right now, friends.

Because we’re in the process of showing and selling out home, I’ve been working out of the house almost every day.

This means I haven’t had much time to be creative in the kitchen, and breakfast is really the only meal I make and eat at home.

I was just saying on Instagram how it’s been a second since I shared a breakfast post with you.

So…here’s what’s been happening here lately.

If there’s one thing that’s making me feel at home, it’s whipping up a Chocolate Cherry Smoothie Bowl.

This delicious breakfast bowl is packed with protein, fiber, antioxidants, and healthy fats that you can blend up in five minutes!

I’ve been blending up in variations of this Chocolate Cherry Smoothie Bowl since 2017!

As I don’t tolerate raw bananas swell in my smoothie bowls, I started relying on frozen cherries to add subtle sweetness to my smoothie bowls.

Until, suddenly, the cherries and chocolate stole the show.

My favorite recipe below calls for frozen berries, cherries, unsweetened almond milk, raw cacao powder, chocolate protein powder, and avocado.

I threw in an optional frozen beet for color and nutrition because I think the earthiness of red beets balances out the sweet cherries!

The result is a thick and creamy smoothie bowl that tastes like dessert but is here for your breakfast.

Cinnamon Butternut Protein Shake (Banana-Free)

By Flora & Vino 2 Comments

Creamy butternut squash based protein shake sweetened with dates and topped with cookie crumble. Perfect for a fall or winter inspired breakfast or snack.

Cinnamon Butternut Protein Shake (Banana-Free)

I know you’ve been there before–

You just finished a heart-thumping workout and race into the kitchen to whip up a post-workout shake, when….

The blender is dirty, swamped in the sink next to last night’s stir fry and empty wine glass.

This week we got some sort of random rebate on our Vitamix, which basically equals the amount to buy another blender container.

YES.

I’m beyond excited to have two containers to swap out and dirty up and dish up all the puréed foods in.

I would totally clean a round of blenders to serve these Cinnamon Butternut Protein Shakes, though.

This banana-free shake is super creamy, refined sugar free, and packed with Vitamin A!

Rich vegan dark hot chocolate made with simple ingredients you already have in your pantry. Perfect for a cold day treat!

Vegan Dark Hot Chocolate served in mugs on wooden board with spoons by Flora & Vino

This time of year is weird, isn’t it?

We’re sitting in an awkward limbo somewhere between colorful Christmas presents and sequined New Years parties.

People are everywhere and nowhere at the same time, with tons of events to attend but hardly any traffic on the streets.

The Christmas tree is still up, looking a little weary and wiry, a telling metaphor for how I feel post holiday-hustle.

I want to push myself to get things in order for the new year, but I also want to lay in bed all day and do absolutely nothing.

Do you feel me?

How about we find a happy medium between the two?

Let’s cozy up to a mug of Vegan Dark Hot Chocolate while we wait to ring in the new year on a sweet note. …

By Flora & Vino Leave a Comment

Easy kombucha-based mocktail with a pomegranate cranberry twist. Perfect for a festive fruity drink that’s packed with probiotics.

It’s a known fact that anything poured into a wine or a cocktail glass immediately makes it taste ten times fancier.

This past Sunday I wanted to treat myself but didn’t really feel like wine so I did just this-

Sipping slowly on the reddish pink effervescent liquid instantly made me feel calm and cared for.

This Cran-Pomegranate Kombucha Mocktail is just the drink you need to treat yourself this holiday season!

Made with just a handful of simple ingredients, it’s easy to mix up for festivities and hard not to love.

Grab a pretty glass and get ready to fill it with red & green and probiotics.

Pumpkin Pie Shake (Banana-Free)

By Flora & Vino Leave a Comment

Pumpkin Pie Shake (Banana-Free) that’s lightly sweetened with Medjool dates and fluffy from steamed and frozen cauliflower.

Three Pumpkin Pie Shakes (Banana-Free) by Flora & Vino

I wore a jacket today for the first time this season on an evening walk with Harper around the neighborhood.

Dan was stoically shivering beside me, despite my solid attempts to get him to bring a jacket.

“It’s not that cold”, he argued, grasping elbow to elbow around his middle like a protective barrier to keep out the chill.

Typical.

The air was cool and crisp for the first time this season, and I found myself craving all of the pumpkin…everything.

This launched a discussion about PSLs (Pumpkin Spice Lattes), both of us agreeing that they really are too sweet to be good.

But then most pre-made pumpkin things this time of year taste too sweet to my taste buds.

My thoughts are this…if you can’t taste the pumpkin…then what’s the point?

The point is that you need to make these this Pumpkin Pie Shake (Banana-Free), friends!

They’re packed with pumpkin, protein, and nourishment to get you moving and grooving into fall– hopefully with a jacket on.

Low-Sugar Blueberry Zucchini Almond Butter Shake

By Flora & Vino 4 Comments

Easy low-sugar shake that’s packed with protein and hidden zucchini! Perfect for a quick breakfast or snack using leftover zucchini from the fridge!

Low-Sugar Blueberry Zucchini Almond Butter Shake

If you’d told me a few years ago that I’d be steaming and freezing zucchini to throw into shakes and then blogging about it, I would have laughed in your face.

I’m not sure what part would have been funnier– the zucchini in the blender part or the being a full time blogger part.

Both would have elicited a big hearty belly laugh.

But here I am, friends, taking my steamed and frozen zucchini and the blogging details v. seriously.

Exhibit A, this Low-Sugar Blueberry Zucchini Almond Butter Shake, is no laughing matter.

It’s super creamy, packed with healthy fats, protein, veggies, and low in sugar, with the most luscious Wendy’s frosty consistency.

Jackpot.

Iced Almond Matcha Latte with Coconut Butter

By Flora & Vino Leave a Comment

Easy Iced Almond Matcha Latte with a coconut twist! Lightly sweetened with maple syrup and super creamy with the addition of coconut butter.

Iced Almond Milk Matcha Latte

Are you a morning person?

I used to be, but at some point I fell off the bandwagon and getting back on has been struggle city.

Dan’s brain starts working before mine in the mornings.

He can wake up and instantly start processing big things like finances, weekend plans, and household maintenance all before the sun has had a chance to shine.

I think we’ve come to an understanding, though.

He’s fine to mull these things over in silence, but they can’t be uttered to me until I’ve had at least one sip of my Iced Almond Matcha Latte.

With the weather getting warmer, I switched up my favorite Cinnamon Almond Matcha Latte for this cold classic!

Refreshing, lightly sweet, with an optional coconut butter twist.

It takes less time than the hot version does– and neither Dan or I (or you, dear friend) can argue with me getting my caffeine faster!

Let’s do it!

Chocolate Chia Chip Yam Smoothie Bowl (Fruit-Free)

By Flora & Vino 5 Comments

Creamy chocolate fruit-free smoothie bowl packed with veggies and naturally sweetened with japanese yam. Perfect for an energizing breakfast or snack.

Chocolate Chia Chip Yam Smoothie Bowl (Fruit-Free)

Time.

Have you got it?

I want to know– were we always this busy, or, as a collective did we suddenly take on more than we can do (and chew)?

Last night in yoga, my instructor talked about how our perceived lack of time is all a matter of mindset.

Basically, that we make time for the things that matter.

“You made time for yoga,” she said, strolling through the parted sea of down dogs to the back of the studio room.

This is true, I thought, hanging out in down dog with the clarity and calm that always finds me at the studio.

And amidst all of the ceaseless tasks and torturous to-dos, guess what?!

I also made time to make a smoothie bowl.

This Chocolate Chia Chip Yam Smoothie Bowl only requires 10 minutes and a handful of ingredients, so no excuses, because you’ve got time too, boo.

Cinnamon Roasted Carrot Cake Shakes (Banana-Free) by Flora & Vino

Happy Sunday, friends!

How was your weekend?

Mine was pretty quiet in the best possible way.

We took the time to tackle a little spring-cleaning and rearrange areas of the condo that weren’t really working.

Sometimes it feels like the kindest thing I can do for myself is to tackle headfirst those big tasks that have been lazing around my TO-DO list for months, you know?

Another kind thing we can do for ourselves to prep for the week is to go bake a giant tray of cinnamon roasted carrots.

Cinnamon roasted carrots?

Yes, to throw in Carrot Cake Shakes!

These Cinnamon Roasted Carrot Cake Shakes are a fun banana-free mix that make it possible for you to have your cake and drink it too.

Blackberry Beet & Walnut Smoothie Bowl

By Flora & Vino 2 Comments

Blackberry Beet & Walnut Smoothie Bowl with blackberries, beet, and raw walnuts. Packed with root veggies, antioxidants, and protein!

Blackberry Beet & Walnut Smoothie Bowl (Banana-Free) served in coconut bowls with frozen blackberries and raw walnuts scattered

Hey, you.

Serious question.

Is it smoothie bowl season yet?

Or, perhaps more appropriately, is it socially acceptable smoothie bowl season yet?

Because I’ve been rocking the bowls privately (or maybe not quite so privately) all winter long, and I’m ready for the big debut.

How do you feel about something bright, bold, and BEET?

Lately, I’ve been obsessed with this Blackberry Beet & Walnut Smoothie Bowl (Banana-Free) that’s low sugar, high vibe, and perfectly packed with veg and protein.

This gorgeous fuchsia bowl has everything you need to invite warmer weather and refreshing breakfasts back in season.

I’m currently working hard at making beets for breakfast a thing.

The blackberry, beet, and walnut combination was something I first threw together in my Vitamix over a year ago, back when throwing frozen veg into the blender felt like the wild wild west to me.

I’ve been perfecting it ever since.

Juicy sweet blackberries, earthy mellow beets, and creamy walnuts are so good smashed together and then enjoyed by the spoonful!

Another berry will work if you need to substitute, but something about blackberries makes this combination sing like an angelic choir.

Trust me on this.
