Who else agrees that baking > shopping?

This might be the first Black Friday in the history of Black Fridays that I didn’t purchase anything.

Nada. Zilch. Zero.

This speaks volumes, because I used to create tactical lists and battle tactics to ensure I hit all of my favorite stores and their enticing sales.

These days, combating hundreds of humans hungry for the sweetest savings makes me tired and anxious just thinking about.

I did, however, brave the day for a yoga class with my sister, embark on a grocery trip (can we have a day of savings there, please?!), oh, and I did some serious holiday baking.

Ah, Thanksgiving is upon us!

I was talking to a friend on the phone this past week (I know, the phone!) and we admitted to each other that the holidays can be so busy that somewhere in the logistics we lose sight of, you know, the holiday.

It would be like making this Vegan Chocolate Pie and getting so wrapped up in serving it and washing the dishes that you don’t sit down and enjoy a slice.

Yes, the Thanksgiving feast is coming, but I thought we could start out small, with an appetizer of sorts.

I thought we could start the festivities with Purple Sweet Potato Muffins.

They’re oil-free, gluten-free, vegan, and refined-sugar-free, making them a suitable treat for everyone in the fam.

If you’ve been following me for a while, you probably know that I’m pretty obsessed with purple sweet potatoes.

When my girlfriends came over for brunch a few weeks back I made them goodie bags of my favorite products.

In passing, I threatened to stuff a purple potato in there, because they’re that good!

I have quite a history with purple sweet potatoes so far. 

Remember when I added them ti Overnight Oats, stuffed them with Tandoori Spiced Chickpeas, and whipped them into hummus on toast?!

Today I stocked up on pumpkin purée…again.

Every time I put armfuls of the 15 oz. cans in my cart I think to myself, yes, for sure, this should get me through pumpkin season.

But then it doesn’t, and this trip probably won’t either, because pumpkin is so darn good.

And because pumpkin season at F&V is more of a 365 day affair.

Sooooo freakin’ windy.

We went to a U-Pick farm last weekend and took Harper along for the ride.

When we stepped off the wagon and onto the pumpkin patch, I was ready to pick the first pumpkin I saw, and yours, too, if you’d let me, just to get back on the wagon that led us back to the steady warmth of the car.

Usually we pick a pair of pumpkins for the front steps for symmetry and all, but given the (cold) circumstances, we grabbed a single handsome orange gourd and called it a day.

This 5-Minute Pumpkin Yogurt Bowl is a similarly good-looking orange situation that I think you’re going to want to dip into.

I wore a jacket today for the first time this season on an evening walk with Harper around the neighborhood.

Dan was stoically shivering beside me, despite my solid attempts to get him to bring a jacket.

“It’s not that cold”, he argued, grasping elbow to elbow around his middle like a protective barrier to keep out the chill.

Typical. 

The air was cool and crisp for the first time this season, and I found myself craving all of the pumpkin…everything.

This launched a discussion about PSLs (Pumpkin Spice Lattes), both of us agreeing that they really are too sweet to be good.

But then most pre-made pumpkin things this time of year taste too sweet to my taste buds.

My thoughts are this…if you can’t taste the pumpkin…then what’s the point?

The point is that you need to make these this Pumpkin Pie Shake (Banana-Free), friends!

Hey you, how was your weekend?

I had girlfriends over for brunch on Saturday with an F&V inspired spread, followed by an epic trip to Target (does an un-epic version even exist?), and some serious fall cleaning around the house.

The usual combination of fun and mundane before the workweek begins again.

Oh, and most importantly, I made these Avocado SunButter Swirl Brownies!

They require only eight ingredients and are packed with healthy fats, protein, and plenty of fudgy chocolate flavor.

Are you team chewy or team fudgy brownie?

My high school boyfriend used to eat around edges of the big brownie sheet pan his mom made, enjoying the crispy edges, so when I came over only the haggard center remained.

Which was fine by me, because I’m more of a center brownie-pan kind of a girl.

Well, we also took a long flooded walk this evening that left us both dripping, but if you have to choose your rainy day therapy, definitely go with baking.

Whether you love TFK as much as I do, you’re going to be obsessed with my version of this cauliflower! It’s baked and then coated in a tahini sauce and topped with fresh herbs, cranberries, and hazelnuts. Enjoy it as an appetizer or side! Cozy and delicious all year round.
