Chocolate baked oatmeal with nuts, banana, almond butter, and chocolate chips. Bake it in under an hour for dessert for breakfast!
I’m going to get straight the point of this post: I love this Chocolate Baked Oatmeal so much!
So much that when M decided he liked them too, I baked him another pan so we could each have our own.
I packed both pans in our cooler and took them to southern Virginia this summer to visit family.
In the mornings at the mountain home, I enjoyed my baked oats with fresh berries, yogurt, and granola.
This Chocolate Baked Oatmeal is made with nuts, banana, almond butter, and dark chocolate chips for a nourishing breakfast that tastes like dessert.
Make a pan for a cozy breakfast situation that is concise, decadent, and nutritious!
What You Need to Make Chocolate Baked Oatmeal
Here’s what you need to make Chocolate Baked Oatmeal:
- gluten-free old-fashioned oats
- roughly chopped pecans or walnuts
- Navitas Organics Cacao Powder
- ground flaxseed
- unsweetened almond milk
- maple syrup
- banana
- almond butter
- dairy-free dark chocolate chips
That’s it!
How to Make Chocolate Baked Oatmeal
First, preheat the oven to 375°F and line a 9×9 square baking dish with parchment paper or lightly grease it with coconut oil.
You can also use any dish of similar size and shape for similar results!
In a medium mixing bowl, mix all of the dry ingredients: oats, nuts, and cacao powder.
I chose chopped pecans for my pan and used chopped walnuts in M’s!
Be sure that the nuts are roughly chopped for the best consistency.
Navitas Organics Cacao Powder
I used Navitas Organics Cacao Powder to make these oats super chocolate-y and decadent.
This 100% cacao powder is an excellent swap for unsweetened cocoa in all of your chocolate needs.
I always have it on hand in my cabinet for any recipe that require cocoa.
Navitas Organics Cacao Powder is packed with nutrients and a rich chocolate taste that’s delicious in baking, hot cocoa, smoothies, and no-bake treats.
But first, let’s add this plant-based superfood to our baked oatmeal!
In a smaller mixing bowl, mix up the flax egg and allow it to sit for 5 minutes to gel.
Next, add in the almond milk, maple syrup, banana, and almond butter and stir well to combine.
This recipe is naturally sweetened with smashed banana and pure maple syrup!
Add the wet ingredients to the dry and mix until everything is well-combined.
Mix In Dark Chocolate Chips
Fold in the dark chocolate chips.
I like using mini dark chocolate chips but you could also chop up a dark chocolate bar if you don’t have chips on hand.
You can also swap in Navitas Organics Cacao Nibs!
These straight up cacao bean bits are high in antioxidants, fiber, and minerals!
Spoon the mixed batter into the prepared baking dish and spread it into an even layer with the back of a spoon or spatula.
Top it with more dark chocolate chips, then pop the dish in the oven to bake!
Bake the oats for ~45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and slightly firm to the touch.
How to Serve Chocolate Baked Oatmeal
Remove the baked oatmeal from the oven and allow it to cool for a few minutes.
Serve the baked oatmeal warm or chilled with your choice of toppings.
I love mine served with a spoonful of yogurt, a sprinkle of granola, and fresh berries.
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week and reheat before serving!
How to Meal Prep Baked Oats
This Chocolate Baked Oatmeal is an easy meal prep breakfast for chocolate lovers!
Meal prep your baked oats on Sunday and enjoy squares during the week for an easy breakfast.
This recipe can be enjoyed chilled or re-warmed, so it’s perfect for any season.
Reheat your baked oats easily in the oven or microwave or eat them straight from the refrigerator.
You can also make this baked oatmeal as a weekend breakfast or brunch to share with family and friends.
For a nut-free version, use sunflower seed butter, oat milk, and omit the nuts.
Enjoy!

I’ve just made these for the first time and they are amazing! I had to sub a couple of things I didn’t have in, cocoa powder for cacao and chocolate almond milk but they are delicious, like having cake for breakfast 😋
Thanks for the recipe xx
