Sub kombucha for soda in these orange kombucha floats made with kombucha, fresh orange juice, and dairy-free ice cream. Perfect for a summer dessert!
Did anyone else go through a big root beer float phase as a kid?
I think mine was about the time my parents discovered Virgil’s Root Beer at Whole Foods and we paired it with vanilla ice cream that fizzled and foamed when combined in tall glasses.
To be honest, though, orange soda was always my soda flavor of choice, beating out Sprite, Dr. Pepper, and Pepsi for me at any of my friend’s birthday parties.
So what if we took these two kid-classics and combined them to make a new kind of dessert?
Basically the delicious love-child of an orange creamsicle and a root beer float that are both into clean eating.
These Easy Orange Kombucha Floats are vegan, refined sugar free, and packed with sweet citrus flavor.
These healthy floats are a nutritious dessert that’s sure to float your boat!
The ingredients for this recipe are, as the title suggests…easy.
You need:
- orange kombucha
- dairy-free ice cream
- fresh squeezed orange juice
These days, though, I prefer my orange bubbly to be a little more nutritious.
MTO Kombucha has a wonderful orange kombucha that is organic, vegan, non-gmo, and gluten-free with zero sugar added post-fermentation.
Not to mention the powerful probiotics you get with each sip.
For the ice cream, I decided to go with an almond-milk based ice cream, but coconut-milk based ice creams will work too!
Fresh squeezed orange juice accents the orange kombucha and adds a little extra sweetness without any added sugars.
For this recipe, I recommend using a chilled mug to keep your contents super cold.
If you’ve ever made a root beer float before, you know that the rest is pretty simple.
Add all of the goodness to a mug a slurp.
The only debatable point, I suppose, is whether to add the ice cream or kombucha to the glass first.
I recommend adding the ice cream scoops first, simple because it creates less potential for spillage.
The ice cream will find its way to the top and float either way.
My favorite part is watching the kombucha and froth in beautiful orange cream bubbles.
These Easy Orange Kombucha Floats are perfect for a family ice cream night, solo ice cream night, or whenever floats sound fab.
If you only want to make one float, simply divide the ingredients in half and save the rest of the kombucha for drinking or another ice cream float (maybe tomorrow night?).
I used orange kombucha here but you could also sub your favorite flavor instead, omitting the fresh squeezed orange as an accent.
Some other MTOK flavors that I think would make fantastic floats are: Blueberry, Double Ginger, Strawberry, or Vanilla.
If the contents of the float are thick, grab a spoon and dig in!
The float will become more drinkable as the kombucha and ice cream melt together.
YUM.
