German style iced coffee made with chilled brewed coffee and vegan vanilla ice cream topped with soymilk and cacao nibs. Perfect for a summer pick-me-up!
M loves to tell the story of his first American iced coffee.
It was a hot day and he ordered an iced coffee to cool down and indulge in something sweet.
He was crestfallen when he was served a coffee with milk and ice cubes and a straw to drink it through.
He went on to explain that in Germany, Eiskaffee is a coffee served over vanilla *ice cream* with whipped cream on top.
It’s dessert, it’s coffee, and you can enjoy it any time of the day.
Ever since he explained what Eiskaffee was, I knew I needed to try it and put my spin on it.
This week, M and his brother showed me how to make Eiskaffee with a few simple ingredients.
This Eiskaffee (German Iced Coffee) is made with chilled brewed coffee and vegan vanilla ice cream topped with soymilk and cacao nibs.
It’s perfect for a summer pick-me-up that’s ready in less than 5 minutes!
Here’s what you need to make this Eiskaffee:
- 2-4 cups cold coffee
- 4 scoops vegan vanilla ice cream
- Eden Foods Unsweetened Organic Soymilk
- Coconut whipped cream
- Cacao nibs
That’s it!
First, brew your coffee using your preferred method.
Let it cool down on the countertop for 30-60 minutes, then transfer the coffee to the refrigerator to chill overnight.
I like using decaf coffee for this recipe since I mostly like to enjoy my eiskaffee in the evening and don’t need the extra caffeine at 8 PM.
However, you can use whatever coffee you’d like!
M and his brother let me know that this coffee is often enjoyed in Germany as a warm summer afternoon pick-me-up.
Once your coffee is chilled, we can start building our Eiskaffee.
First, pick a large glass.
You want one with enough room to accommodate both coffee and ice cream, so, when in doubt, go with the bigger g
First, scoop 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream into each glass.
The ice cream should fill the glass about 2/3 of the way full, for a visual marker.
Next, pour the cold coffee over the ice cream until it almost fills the glass.
Add a splash of Eden Foods Unsweetened Organic Soymilk directly to the glass.
I love this organic soymilk because it has an impressive 12 grams of plant-based protein per serving.
It’s also unsweetened and naturally gluten-free, making it ideal for all lifestyles and diets.
It has a great creamy taste and texture that lends itself to many recipes, including Eiskaffee!
For the finish, top the glasses off with coconut whipped cream and cacao nibs.
Serve the glasses immediately with a tall spoon and a straw so you can do a bit of slurping and a bit of spooning.
Throw a bit of mint on top if you’re feeling fancy.
I like to let the coffee and ice cream combine a bit before enjoying.
However, there’s no wrong way to enjoy an Eiskaffee!
Enjoy this Eiskaffee (German Iced Coffee) as a unique dessert, snack, or anytime treat.
The combination of ice cream and coffee is delicious, refreshing, and rejuvenating.
It’s two of my favorite feel-good treats in one tall glass.
The toasty bitterness of the coffee paired with sweet vanilla ice cream is perfectly balanced and elevated.
For different variations, try adding chocolate ice cream or your favorite ice cream flavor instead of vanilla.
Enjoy!
