Easy oven-baked tofu fries perfect for a protein packed snack or side. Meal prep them in advance to add protein to workweek meals.
I used to meal prep like it was my J O B.
Working in an office, I was determined to have access to all of the foods that made me thrive.
So I planned in advance, down to the very last Tupperware container.
In the height of my meal prep days. I sliced tofu into thin strips and baked until crispy brown on the outside and tender on the inside.
It was lost on me that these thin strips sort of resembled fries, until I baked one batch too long, removing their erect rectangular shapes from the cookie sheet in amazement.
And so it began, making Oven-Baked Tofu Fries for #mealprepsunday.
At first I made tofu fries just for me, thinking it was a grand inside joke.
“Tofu fries?” Dan arched his eyebrows questioningly when I asked for his help on these photos.
Yes, tofu fries.
But then I got to thinking…maybe you could use these in your life, too?
Tofu takes on new form when seasoned, baked, and browned.
They’re easy, oil-free, flavorful, and packed with protein.
Also you can adjust the doneness of your tofu in this recipe.
For crunchier crispier fries, bake for slightly longer, and for softer fries, remove from the oven earlier.
A quick-press is absolutely sufficient for this recipe, and many times I don’t even do that because I’m soo ready for the ‘fu.
For seasonings, you can do a mix of dried basil, garlic, and salt and pepper to taste.
I dressed them up for this post friends, but I’ll be honest with you.
For the most part, I make these fries one-ingredient.
That’s right, usually I pop the tofu shapes into the oven solo without shaking them in anything.
A bit of garlic, salt, and pepper is a good place to start so the fries are lightly seasoned but versatile enough to go with any food pairing.
These Oven-Baked Tofu Fries are perfect as a protein-packed snack or side.
I like to bake a pan ahead of time to keep on hand for easy plant-based protein during the workweek.
They’re so easy to reheat and throw on top of power bowls, salads, or plates to bring your meal together.
If you decide to plate them as a snack, try dipping them in guacamole, hummus, ketchup, or tahini.

- Total Time: 1 hour 10 mins
- Yield: 3-4 servings
- Diet: Vegan
Description
Easy oven-baked tofu fries perfect for a protein packed snack or side. Meal prep them in advance to add protein to workweek meals.
Ingredients
- 1 16 oz. block of tofu, drained and rinsed
- 1 tsp dried basil (optional)
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder (optional)
- Himalayan sea salt, to taste
- black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400 °F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Drain and rinse the block of tofu and do a quick 30 minute press if you have time. Wrap the block of tofu in a towel and set something heavy on top to release some of the moisture.
- Unwrap the tofu slab and slice it into 1″ fries. Fries will shrink in the oven, so don’t make them too thin or they risk burning. Arrange the “fries” on the lined baking sheet and season them with basil, garlic powder, and salt and pepper.
- Bake the fries in the oven for 20-30 minutes, flipping them once halfway to ensure even baking. For crispier fries, leave in the oven until they are golden brown and very firm. For more tender fries, remove from the oven when lightly brown and tender.
- Serve the fries hot with dip of choice or as the topper to your plant-based plate.
- Store leftover fries in the refrigerator for up to one week and reheat before serving.
- Prep Time: 30 mins
- Cook Time: 40 mins
