Savory green smoothie with cooling cucumber, leafy greens, probiotic-rich kombucha, zesty citrus, fresh herbs, creamy avocado, and sweet apple.
Helllllooooo, everyone!
Anyone else having some pretty strong quarantine cravings?
I don’t know about you, but I’m craving salad like never before.
Like the kind of cravings that the woman in Rapunzel had for fresh spinach.
Luckily, we don’t have to send our significant other into a sorceress’s backyard garden to steal some.
Instead, let’s throw all of the green things into a shake.
This Savory Green Kombucha Smoothie is packed fresh fruit, leafy greens, and probiotics to keep you feeling wonderful and well.
You can use fresh or frozen ingredients to bring this nourishing smoothie to your table in less than 10 minutes!
A savory shake?!
Yes, friend, yes!
I first got the idea for this Savory Green Shake from a recipe via last year’s Tone It Up challenge.
I was skeptical at first, throwing cucumber, herbs, and greens into my blender, but it all worked out in the end.
But don’t worry, it doesn’t taste like sipping on salad.
The addition of green apple, bright lemon, cooling cucumber, and a kombucha kick keep things light, sweet, and refreshing.
Ready to go savory?
Here’s what you need to make a Savory Green Kombucha Smoothie:
- unsweetened almond milk
- Lime Basil Mad Magic Kombucha
- white chia seeds
- avocado
- green apple
- kale or baby spinach
- cucumber
- lemon or lime
- fresh parsley or basil
- vanilla protein powder (optional)
That’s it!
The process is all easy peasy.
Add everything to a high speed blender and blend until you have a creamy green consistency.
I like to add my almond milk, kombucha, squeezed citrus, chia seeds, and optional protein powder into the blender bucket first, topped by the avocado, cucumber, apple, and leafy greens, and herbs.
This ensures that the chia seeds and protein powder won’t go flying all over the blender bucket and lid.
I prefer to use frozen fruits and vegetables in this recipe for a thicker more “shake-like” consistency, but you can also use fresh for a thinner consistency.
Try out both and see which one appeals to you more!
So you might have added savory elements to a smoothie before, but have you ever added kombucha?
I added a hint of Lime Basil Mad Magic Kombucha to this shake to enhance the flavor and add powerful probiotics!
I love Mad Magic Kombucha because it is traditionally brewed and bottled with no artificial ingredients, added sugar, juice, or extracts.
Their booch is naturally fermented using organic black tea leaves and organic raw cane sugar.
The Lime Basil brew is sweet and fragrant basil plus the citrus taste of lime make for a delicious flavor!
I love adding it to my shake here to enhance the herb-y green sweet and savory flavor profile.
Blend up one of these Savory Green Kombucha Smoothies as an easy grab and go breakfast, post-workout fuel, or anytime snack.
Add a scoop of protein powder for extra power, or live as is for an equally nutrient-rich drink.
The recipe below serves one, but can easily be doubled or tripled to serve multiples!
Try topping yours smoothie with you favorite granola, nuts, and seeds.
If you’re feeling fancy, garnish with a cucumber slice or wedge of lime or lemon.
Enjoy!
