Keep your shakes interesting with strawberry and avocado layers! Enjoy this refreshing combo as a healthy breakfast, snack, or dessert.
I remember the first time I added avocado to my shake.
I tapped my spoon on the edge of the blender, releasing a big green hunk of avocado into the pool of protein powder, fruit, and almond milk.
I didn’t have a good feeling about it.
Then I pressed blend anyway.
Thank goodness I did, because I’ve been adding avocado to my smoothies ever since.
I love starting my day off with healthy fats to stay satiated through the morning and avocado is up there with nut butter for me in my smoothie- additions!
Not only do they provide amazing health benefits, they also make your shakes and smoothies super creamy and decadent.
Like these Low-Sugar Strawberry Avocado Layer Shakes.
Swoon.
Friends, I need your help.
Tell me, what is the difference between a “smoothie” and a “shake”?
My initial reaction is to say that shakes are a creamier more decadent treat whereas smoothies are more fruit-based. Yes?
If so, this is really a sort of hybrid, because it’s both fruity and creamy, and since I already have a “Shakes” category on my menu and not “Smoothies”, I’m calling this a shake.
To-may-to, to-mah-to.
The combination of strawberry and avocado is one I keep coming back to.
It’s one of my favorite toast combinations, so I decided to throw it in the blender (without the bread), and the flavors didn’t disappoint.
This recipe is fairly low in sugar and relies only on the sweetness of the strawberries and optional banana.
I like mine as is, but I’ve grown accustomed to lower sugar shakes.
For sweeter layers, try adding a handful of frozen cherries to the strawberry layer and extra fruit to the avocado layer, if desired!
Enjoy these Low-Sugar Strawberry Avocado Layer Shakes for an easy intriguing breakfast, snacking, and even dessert.
Most of the time my Strawberry Avo Shakes don’t quite come out this beautifully, especially if I’m blending them after a sweat sesh and need to ASAP for the well being of those around me.
Feel free to take the one blender express shortcut indicated in the recipe to skip the layers but not the flavor!

Low-Sugar Strawberry Avocado Layer Shakes
- Total Time: 15 mins
- Yield: 2 shakes
- Diet: Vegan
Description
Keep your shakes interesting with strawberry and avocado layers! Enjoy this refreshing combo as a healthy breakfast, snack, or dessert.
Ingredients
Strawberry Layer
- 1 cup frozen strawberries
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
- 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
Avocado Layer
- 1/2 avocado
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
- handful of spinach (frozen preferred)
- 1/2 cup frozen cauliflower (or sub more frozen fruit instead)
- 1/2 cup frozen pineapple, peaches, or mango
- 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
Instructions
- If you have two blenders, fill one with ingredients for the Strawberry Layer and another with ingredients from the Avocado Layer. (see note for one blender options)
- Blend the Avocado Layer first, then the Strawberry Layer, until well combined and creamy. You want these shakes to be a little thick so the layers sit nicely on top of each other.
- Divide the avocado layer mixture between two glasses, filling the bottom. Follow by dividing the strawberry layer mixture on top of the avocado.
- Serve immediately with a strawberry garnish.
Notes
*If you don’t have two blenders, fill your blender with the avocado layer first, blend, then quickly rinse and add ingredients for the Strawberry Layer and blend.
**Alternatively, if you don’t care to make the layers but still want all of the Strawberry Avocado goodness, add all layer ingredients to a high speed blender and serve combined.

THE CAULIFLOWER is boiled or not lol? – interesting never used cauliflower in a smoothie before.
Hi Fanis! Yes, I recommend steaming the cauliflower, then freezing, and adding to the shake that way! XOXO
