Refreshing strawberry sangria made on the spot with oranges, strawberries, and a kombucha flair. Perfect for outdoor summer entertaining!
One of my favorite wineries in the area used to sell the *best* Sangria.
It was perfect to drink on warm summer days, the wine glass cold and sweating while I laughed with friends and family.
When the glass contents were gone, I sucked on ice and fished out wine-soaked orange and apples wedges.
At some point the winery stopped selling sangria, and I never really ordered it anywhere else.
After making mulled wine this winter, I decided it was time to try something chilled with wine, too.
My version is special because it’s got a definite strawberry flavor with a kombucha twist.
It’s also naturally sweetened with orange juice and and fresh fruit and no-added-sugar.
This Strawberry Sangria is made with just 7 ingredients that are easy to throw together in less than 10 minutes for a refreshing fruity drink!
This recipe was born in the car on the way to go outdoor climbing with M.
I was driving, with M in passenger seat, and we brainstormed some sangria ideas for this post.
“Read the ingredients,” I said, imploring him to dictate the recipes on Google that I couldn’t see.
“Wine, oranges, apples, orange juice…” he went on.
“Sounds pretty easy,” I said. And it was.
That evening we tested a Strawberry Sangria that was an immediate success, complete with strawberries subbed for apples and kombucha in place of traditional brandy.
I can’t wait to share it with you and yours for making this summer!
You Need:
- dry Spanish Red Wine (I used Tempranillo!), chilled
- orange, sliced, seeds removed and peeling left on
- strawberries
- orange juice
- Mad Magic Strawberry Kombucha
- maple syrup*, to taste
- ice, for serving
That’s it!
First, focus on the fruit.
Add the diced strawberries and the unpeeled orange slices to a large mixing bowl or pitcher and muddle them with a muddler for about a minute.
If you don’t have a muddler, no worries!
M likes to squeeze the berries and orange wedges before throwing in the bowl, and I like to smash mine with a fork.
There’s no science to this, just make sure all of the fruits starts to release their juices and you’re good to go.
I mixed mine up in a large mixing bowl and then later transferred it to a pitcher for serving.
Next, add in the orange juice and Mad Magic Strawberry Kombucha and muddle everything again to combine for about 30 seconds.
This Strawberry Kombucha is the best.
It’s bursting with berries and is traditionally brewed and bottled without any artificial ingredients, added sugar, juice, or extracts.
Mad Magic Kombucha naturally ferments their brew using organic black tea leaves and organic raw cane sugar!
Instead of adding a liquor or brandy to this sangria, I thought it would be fun to add a splash of kombucha.
This flavor enhances the strawberry vibe while adding powerful probiotics to your happy hour cheers.
I added 1/4 cup in this recipe but you can add up to 1/2 cup for more flavor!
Finally, add your chilled bottle of dry red wine and stir to incorporate.
I chose a Tempranillo for this recipe, but any dry red wine will work.
Save your fancier favorite wines for drinking straight and choose an affordable bottle for this recipe’s purposes– I promise it’ll taste amazing!
Go ahead and taste the mixture and adjust the flavor as needed.
Add more Strawberry Kombucha, strawberries, orange, orange juice to achieve the balance of fruit and sweet.
For sweet sangria, add 1-2 tablespoons of maple syrup for sweeter sangria.
I found mine didn’t need any, but I prefer less sweet drinks in general.
M had to practically beg me to put more orange juice in this one to make it authentic sangria!
And just like that, your sangria is done!
I recommend using a chilled wine so that sangria is already cold.
However, I recommend serving it with a few ice cubes to keep things cold.
Garnish the glasses with fresh strawberries and enjoy immediately!
You’re going to love this Strawberry Sangria!
It’s fruity, perfectly sweet, and refreshing.
Enjoy it on warm summer evening, sip on it poolside, or make with Taco Tuesday.
I created and photographed this recipe in the morning and afternoon and then then enjoyed the pitcher with M over dinner, so it can be made in advance!
While you can store sangria leftovers in a pitcher in the fridge for up to 24 hours, this recipe is *best* enjoyed fresh.
It’s ideal for making and sharing with friends and family for outdoor entertaining!
To serve many guests, try doubling or tripling the recipe contents.
Enjoy!
