Creamy vegan hot chocolate made with cacao powder, dark chocolate, and Chocolate SunButter. Perfect for a cozy cold weather companion!
Friends!
I’m hurrying to share a Hot Chocolate post today with the hope that you’ll make it before Spring.
March 20th is the first “official” day of spring, but it’s been absolutely gorgeous here all week.
And today, naturally, I’m writing about hot chocolate today on the hottest day of the year.
I have all of the windows open around the townhouse to beckon the sunshine and breeze inside.
The gentle breeze is nice but when sitting in the direct sun or hanging out on the upper level (where heat rises), it’s downright warm!
But it’s never too hot for hot chocolate, right?
Say yes, because I developed this recipe a few (colder) weeks back and I just couldn’t wait until next winter to share it with you.
This SunButter Hot Chocolate is super decadent with just four ingredients mandatory ingredients and two optional add-ins!
The Creamiest Vegan Hot Chocolate
This recipe was inspired by my Vegan Dark Hot Chocolate recipe and a long hike out in the cold.
I threw in a spoonful of Chocolate SunButter on a whim after seeing a Peanut Butter Hot Chocolate recipe in a cookbook lying around the dining room table.
How fortuitous, because the end result was undeniably delicious.
It’s creamy, thick, and rich without any dairy or added oils.
M stated after the a solo sip that this vegan hot chocolate is even better than the original.
We’re also huge fans of the new Chocolate SunButter.
I mean, SunButter plus chocolate– what’s not to like?
This deliciously creamy blend of rich cocoa and savory sunflower butter is lightly sweet, satisfying, and nutritious!
It only has 5g of sugar with 6g of plant-based protein while being free from the top 8 allergens.
What You Need to Make SunButter Hot Chocolate
You Need:
- unsweetened almond milk
- unsweetened raw cacao powder
- dairy-free dark chocolate chips
- Chocolate SunButter
- pure maple syrup (optional)
- pinch of cinnamon (optional)
That’s it!
How to Make SunButter Hot Chocolate
This hot chocolate is so easy to make on the stovetop in less than 10 minutes!
Fist, add the almond milk to a medium saucepan over medium heat.
Once milk is warm and steaming, add in the cacao powder, chopped chocolate, Chocolate SunButter, and cinnamon and whisk until there aren’t any lumps.
Taste and add maple syrup in tiny one teaspoon increments to reach your desired sweetness.
Pour the steaming mixture into a mug and top with optional shaved chocolate.
Serve immediately!
How to Serve SunButter Hot Chocolate
Enjoy this SunButter Hot Chocolate on a cold day, or any day you need a warm chocolate hug.
Because the Chocolate SunButter is already lightly sweet, I recommend adding only a small amount of maple syrup to start.
Adjust the hot chocolate sweetness to your liking right before serving.
M likes his chocolate medium sweet and I like mine even darker than that.
To make multiple mugs, try doubling, tripling, or even quadrupling the recipe for more servings.
I love my mugs topped with shaved chocolate and a pinch of cinnamon.
Enjoy!
