Easy unique jam made with cherry tomatoes and simple ingredients that achieve the perfect balance of sweet and spicy. Perfect as the topping for any meal!
When I first heard that tomatoes were actually a fruit (something about the whole seed situation classification), I was silently in denial.
Sure, you can say you’re a fruit, but I know who you REALLY are.
They just get along with vegetables too well.
Takes one to know one, right?
And then I made this Sweet & Spicy Tomato Jam, and, bam.
I’m pretty sure I’ll never think of tomatoes as a vegetable again.
I’ve always been a sort of plain jain gal, never paying too much attention to condiments and jams and paying more attention to food they cover.
This jam though, deserves to be showcased on its own.
It’s not too sweet and not too spicy.
It keeps you guessing which one you’ll taste more with each bite.
It’s oil free and refined sugar free (a must for me when I’m shopping for or making homemade jams).
And not to give away the ending, but the tomatoes kind of burst in your mouth in the most amazing way…
Jammin’ yet?
This jam is so easy to make, the hardest part is spent waiting for the mixture to simmer down.
Unfortunately for me, this became increasingly harder each time I made a jar.
I could hardly wait knowing what deliciousness was waiting for me under that lid dripping with syrupy condensation.
Luckily, it’s OK to taste test mid simmer.
You want to make sure the flavors are right, yes?
I had no problem polishing off a jar of this within a week, but if you’re worried about committing to 2 cups of this spicy and sweet goodness, have no fear.
You can easily halve the recipe by using 1 pint of tomatoes, and 1/2 of all ingredients down the recipe, to achieve the same tastiness in half the quantity.
Spread it on toast with avocado spread, rice cakes with cream cheese, or all by itself on a spoon.
I’ve also tried and loved it on yogurt to make a savory parfait, tucked into sandwiches, and even on salad!
Basically, the only way to eat it wrong is by not eating it.
Of course, it’s also delicious by the heaping spoonful.

Highly recommend the jam on top of avocado toast with basil. The creamy avocado really mixed well with the spicy jam (well, I accidentally added a little more pepper so it was spicy for me). Such a good recipe!
Love this easy recipe for using up cherry tomatoes! I let it cook down much longer in the final step and we use the end result as a condiment like barbecue sauce. YUM!
My favorite to make during tomato season!
