Delicious plant-based protein shake with creamy tahini and sweetened with dates and frozen bananas. Mix it up by choosing vanilla or chocolate protein base.

Tahini Date Shake (2-Ways!) by Flora & Vino

Hi, how’s it going?

Lately I’ve been going back through the F&V archives, retesting and recreating some of my first ever recipes to make them new again.

I stumbled across this Tahini Date shake this past week and knew I had to recreate it for you, friend.

It’s hard to know when to share my protein shake recipes.

So many combinations, so little time, you know?

Honestly, I typically default to “don’t post” them because they seem, for lack of a better word, basic.

I mean, I know you know how to blend together some frozen fruit and milk!

This Tahini Date Shake, however, is some next level shaker-y.

Are you ready?

Tahini Date Shake (2-Ways!) Ingredients

The first time I heard of pairing tahini and dates I know I twisted up my features in disgust.

This might surprise you, knowing how much I *love* and use tahini on regular basis now.

Tahini Date Shake (2-Ways!) in blender

Here’s what you need:

  • frozen banana
  • steamed and frozen cauliflower
  • almond milk
  • plant-based protein powder
  • hemp hearts
  • cinnamon
  • tahini
  • Medjool dates
  • raw cacao powder

That’s it!

Tahini Date Shake (2-Ways!) in blender

The tahini adds a creamy tanginess that is the perfect compliment to sweet Medjool dates.

You can control the sweetness here by editing your number of dates.

I usually go with one pitted date, but you can add up to two to achieve your perfect sweetness.

I fluffed it all up with frozen banana and a secret hidden vegetable: frozen cauliflower!

Pre-steamed and frozen cauliflower is an excellent low-sugar way to boost your shakes texture without adding more frozen fruit.

This is particularly useful for anyone watching their sugar intake.

I promise you don’t even taste the cauliflower!

If that doesn’t appeal to you, no worries!

Feel free to substitute the frozen cauliflower with another 1/2 of a frozen banana for sweeter shakes.

Tahini Date Shake (2-Ways!) by Flora & Vino

Good news– you can control the consistency for this shake!

For thinner shakes, add more unsweetened almond milk.

To achieve thicker shakes, add less almond milk or more frozen banana of cauliflower to bulk it up.

You could even turn this Tahini Date Shake into a smoothie bowl by decreasing the liquid and increasing the frozen foods!

To serve, pour the mixture into a glass and serve immediately with a drizzle of tahini and a sprinkle of granola.

I love this shake because it transcends seasons.

It feels refreshing and light in the spring and summer and cozy and creamy enough to. drink by your space heater in the fall and winter.

Tahini Date Shake (2-Ways!) by Flora & Vino

Enjoy this Tahini Date Shake as an easy unique breakfast, snack, or even dessert.

I love to blend it up and slurp while still in yoga pants with my hair up after my morning workout.

It has all the nutrients you need to recharge after a workout!

Each sip is packed with complex carbs, healthy fats, and plant-based protein.

You can also enjoy it as a decadent breakfast, satiating snack, or healthy dessert.

Enjoy with or without cacao powder for an optional chocolate twist.

Hello, healthy milkshake!

Enjoy!

Description

Delicious plant-based protein shake with creamy tahini and sweetened with dates and frozen bananas. Mix it up by choosing vanilla or chocolate protein base.

Ingredients

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1/2 cup steamed and frozen cauliflower (or sub 1/2 frozen banana for sweeter shakes)
  • 1 cup almond milk (+more if you want a thinner consistency)
  • 1 scoop chocolate or vanilla plant-based protein powder
  • 1 tsp hemp hearts (optional)
  • pinch of cinnamon
  • 1 TBSP runny tahini
  • 1–2 Medjool dates*, pitted
  • 1 TBSP raw cacao powder (optional, for chocolate version)
  • For serving: your favorite granola, tahini drizzle

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients in a high speed blender and blend until well incorporated.
  2. Serve immediately with your favorite granola and tahini drizzle!

Notes

*If you don’t have a high speed blender, you may want to pre-soak your dates in warm water first for easier blending!

      Hi Bea,

Yes, you can! I recommend using hemp hearts or maybe chia to add some bulk if you’d like some extra protein!

IMAGINE YOUR STUFF SPONTANEOUSLY COMBUST. 🤣 - T IMAGINE YOUR STUFF SPONTANEOUSLY COMBUST. 🤣
-
This weekend I tackled cleaning and organizing a closet that I’d been avoiding. 🚪
-
It’s a spacious closet in my spare bedroom. It’s also the first place I put things I rarely use, storage stuff, and items that don’t have a home. Basically, it’s a giant walk-in “junk” drawer.
-
Over time, it’s gotten so full I could hardly open the door without a stuffed animal falling from the top shelf or stepping on a prickly Christmas wreath.
-
“Out of sight, out of mind,” I reasoned, keeping the door tightly shut. But I could feel the weight of the things through the walls. The cluttered closet had a pulse, a heaviness, a resistance.
-
I was listening to @theminimalists podcast this week— the topic was letting go of “sentimental” stuff. They bluntly posed the question, “How would you feel if all of the stuff spontaneously combust?”
-
I thought about my closet, POOF, gone, in the blink of an eye. All of the things in there that I couldn’t even name, no longer my responsibility. Imagining all of that stuff taken from me in a catastrophe outside of my control, I felt relief.
-
While I’m glad my closet didn’t *actually* implode, my reaction to the exercise made me realize that I needed to let go of some things to make space in my house, my head, and my heart.
-
So Saturday I shuffled through old stuff, filled boxes to donate, and stuffed trash bags. I didn’t let go of all of it, but it felt like a big step towards lightness and freedom.
-
If you’ve been following me for a while you know that I’m on a constant journey towards a more minimalistic life. It’s a constant journey. I donate, I buy, I purge, I collect, I clutter, I minimize.
-
I strive for everything I own to either have a purpose or bring me immense joy, and how can any possession do either buried under junk behind a shut door?
-
Today, I can walk into the closet unscathed and actually *see* my old high school yearbooks, two guitars, and toolboxes filled with paints and pencils from art school.
-
Do you have a closet or space like this too? What have you been holding onto that you need to let go of this week? Please share!

CHICKPEA & WILD RICE SOUP is new on the blog today CHICKPEA & WILD RICE SOUP is new on the blog today. 🍲 Perfect for fickle spring weather that’s cold one minute and warm the next. I grew up eating cans of chicken and wild rice soup so this is a vegan and gluten-free tribute to the classic! This chickpea & wild rice soup packed with garbanzo beans, wild rice, and savory herbs in a light broth. It’s your new favorite veg-packed soup staple for all year round!
-
Did you know that most wild rice out there isn’t *real* wild rice? In this soup recipe, I used @edenfoods Wild Rice. //#sponsored This gluten-free whole grain is hand harvested by the Minnesota Leech Lake band of Ojibwe, Native Americans, by canoe! In learning more about wild rice production, I discovered that much of the wild rice sold isn’t authentic. *True* wild rice is Native American hand harvested from the wild by canoe, and is wood fire parched!
-
Authentic wild harvested wild rice ranges in color, cooks in only 25 to 30 minutes, is light and fluffy, and has a rich and delicious flavor, unlike the machine harvested stuff that’s black brown, chewy, and takes forever to cook. Outside of its great flavor, and texture, @edenfoods wild rice is rich in B3 and manganese and is a great source of fiber, B1, B2, magnesium, and zinc! It’s amazing added to this soup to keep everything thick and hearty.
