Super easy 3-ingredient halva made with tahini, dates, and pistachios. Perfect for a clean treat packed with healthy fats and fuel.
Where has January gone?
I can’t believe we’re almost half way through this first month of the year.
Confession: I had originally planned a dessert-free month here at Flora & Vino, but I think we’re all detox-ed and ready for something a little sweet, yes?
Especially if you made my Detox Salad from earlier this week or my Detox Zoodle Soup for earlier this month.
If you’re still in detox-mode, don’t worry, this recipe is refined sugar free, packed with protein, and ridiculously easy to make.
I don’t know about you, but I think I’ll HAVE some HALVA, OK?
It doesn’t get much simpler than this Vegan Tahini Date Halva.
You just need three ingredients to make this easy treat made with tangy sesame and sweet Medjool dates!
Halva Made Vegan
Have you tried Halva before?
I hadn’t until recently, but I soon fell in love with this sweet fudge-y Middle Eastern rooted treat.
The traditional version calls for confectioners sugar or honey, but I opted for dates to make this recipe naturally sweetened.
I also tested versions with maple syrup, so if you’re not into dates, sub 1/2 cup maple syrup for the dates instead!
You Need a Blender and Freezer
Most Halva recipes happenin’ out there use a longer method of boiling the sugar and sesame paste together, but I decided to blend mine together and freeze for an express version.
Dessert shortcuts are always a good thing, right?
My version is a little more like a a tahini freezer fudge, but I’m A-OK with that and I think you will be too.
How to Make It
All you have to do is blend juicy Medjool dates and your favorite tahini into a gooey dough.
For optimal halva, use fresh Medjool dates and runny tahini for ease in blending.
If the dough is oily, this is natural and desirable as the sesame seed butter releases the naturally occurring oils.
All the better to freeze you with!
I topped my halva with chopped pistachios, but some other topping ideas are cacao nibs, nuts, seeds, or dried fruit.
How to Enjoy It
Enjoy this Vegan Tahini Date Halva whenever you’re craving something sweet and healthy.
Each square is the perfect simple combination of healthy fats and protein to fuel yourself sweetly and naturally.
I like to enjoy a square as pre/post workout fuel, or as an after dinner treat.
Make a loaf pan and keep the squares in the freezer for whenever your sugar cravings hit!

What is Tahiti answer can I buy it from?
Hi Elly! My favorite tahini is this kind: https://www.soomfoods.com/.
The flavor is OK…but where this recipe misses the mark for me is it’s texture. Halva is typically dry, flaky and gritty. This recipe’s texture is like a thick caramel – not flaky, not gritty, not dry.
Because the flavor resembles halva and has wholesome ingredients, I’ll still eat it…but I’ll be experimenting with other halva recipes.
This was delicious! I am not sure why the reviews are so nit picky- this is a healthier version of halva and I loved it!
Hi Kiran,
Thanks so much for your comment– I’m so glad that you enjoyed it!

Ok to replace tahini with any other nut butter?
Hello, I made your recipe this morning and sadly it did not work out. Prior to the dates and tahini combining, the tahini had split. And the oil has separated completely. Unfortunately there was nothing I could do and when I pulsed it further to combine it made no difference. I placed it in the pan and then thought perhaps if I blotted the oil this would help, unfortunately it didn’t. What could be done in the future as your recipe looks so lovely yet in my case it was a failure. I do not have a high powered Thermo mix/ food processor Just a simple one.
Hi Nancy,
I’m so sorry that this happened to you! To confirm, the tahini was separated before beginning the recipe? In the future, I would recommend using a freshly stirred jar of tahini or one that is easier to work with. Let me know if this might help.
