Today is my 1-year quarantine anniversary. - One Today is my 1-year quarantine anniversary.
-
One year ago today I took this picture (swipe right!) with my friend Michelle from @boschstudios. We took a hike and nervously talked about COVID and awkwardly hugged goodbye. It was the last “normal” human interaction I had before the world went crazy. The last visual documentation I have of a pre-COVID world. The last time I met someone with faces exposed.🤳
-
I nostalgically thumb through old photos and videos. Marveling at the ease of physical exchanges; carelessly carefree handshakes, hugs, kisses. Large crowds portrayed in shows and movies make me uncomfortable. I twist my hair nervously on the couch, thinking, “but they’re just so CLOSE.” 😷
-
I never guessed when I hunkered down last March that we would do this for an entire year. And longer. You’ve probably heard the joke that time stopped in March 2020, but in actuality time kept going— both super slowly and quickly since then.⏱
-
For the most part, I’ve been busy. I clung to the mindset that this time was a gift, and vowed to use it well. I became certified in plant-based nutrition. I wrote a cookbook (well, almost!). I met my boyfriend. I started rock climbing with him. I started learning the German language. I ran a half marathon. I grew out my hair. ✔️
-
I think weekends are the hardest, because I get an intense itch for something different. Something to interrupt up the safe sameness, the quarantine routine that I created to keep me sane. Lately, on weekends, I’ve been cooking through my favorite meals on my blog to share with M. Something different. 🍱
-
Some days I can feel the collective psyche. Vaccine updates, zoom calls, phone calls from friends. And some days I feel incredibly isolated, wondering what the rest of the world is thinking, doing, feeling. ❤️
-
And then, in the back of my mind, I worry about reintegrating back into society. When things are back to “normal”. When I have the choice to go anywhere, what will I choose? How will I fit into this brave new world? A world that is so much faster and unforgiving than the slow steady stillness I’ve grown accustomed to. ⁉️

What is your quarantine anniversary?

I'm counting down the days until Daylight Savings I'm counting down the days until Daylight Savings kicks in, but until then I have my @sunlight_inside Sunlight Lamp to keep things naturally bright inside!☀️ Studies have shown that we feel and sleep our best with natural light-- not to mention LOOK our best! 💁🏼‍♀️ But that's just not always possible with work indoors and long days that extend wayyyy past sunset. 🌅
-
That's where @sunlight_inside comes in! They make beautiful, healthy, natural light available indoors anytime with their lamps. Using recent advances in technology, they bring the benefits of natural light indoors. Cool, right?
-
So here’s how they work.💡Sunlight Lamps have a tunable light source that actively mixes together the colors of the rainbow for beautiful and healthy light. It magically recreates the cycles of natural light inside! Each custom lamp contains an internal clock programmed with the time of day, time of year and your exact location. This allows them to automatically deliver the daily and seasonal changes in sunlight for your area. Enjoy natural light right out of the box, without any set-up or App required! You literally just plug it in and turn it on!
-
Here’s how they’re made. @sunlight_inside designs, builds, and sells sustainable lighting products from northern California. They source wood from a sustainable forest in the Midwest and finish it with VoC-free products. Each lamp is hand built to order in North Carolina and all electronics are locally sourced! Each lamp is custom made responsibly and diligently; so they're worth the wait it takes to produce without a standard mass-supply chain.
-
You can have your Sunlight Lamp on all day, but Iike turning mine on in the evening to unwind with a healthy natural glow. 🌟I was surprised how quickly my eyes and brain got accustomed to natural light. Now when I turn on artificial lights in the evenings, I totally feel the jolt on my senses; kind of like a vampire in (fake) daylight moment. 😂🧛‍♀️
-
So, what do you think about the study of light science on well-being? Check out @sunlight_inside for more details! 🛋
