Double Chocolate Banana Bread sliced on wooden board and served on a plate with almond butter by Flora & Vino

“How are you doing being home alone?” my yoga friends asked me on our weekly Zoom date this past week.

I stopped and paused, carefully considering.

“I’m OK,” I finally said.

And I meant it.

It’s a little strange and kind of amazing how we humans can grow and adapt to the curveballs the universe pitches.

I’ve definitely settled into this new normal with a quarantine routine heavy on walks, work, and virtual connection.

I feel so lucky than I can keep F&V running and continue to share delicious eats with you during these unprecedented times.

So let’s make some good stay-at-home memories, shall we?

So word on the street is that the top googled recipes right now are for banana bread.

This Double Chocolate Banana Bread is gluten-free, oil-free, refined sugar-free, and made easy with just 1-bowl and a loaf pan!

And plenty of spotty bananas and dark chocolate, obviously…

Spring Quinoa Primavera

Colorful quinoa dish with herb infused quinoa and seasonal spring veggies. Serve with sparkling rosé for a refreshing plant-based pairing!

Spring Quinoa Primavera served in bowls on blue paper with spoons and glass of Rosé

Happy Friday, friends!

We did it again.

I know all of the days are prone to run together in quarantine unless you carefully segregate them with consistent routine, so if you weren’t sure what day it was, allow me to remind you with a virtual toast.

Tonight I did a virtual happy hour with a friend and we confessed that even virtual dates can be tiring.

Anyone else Zoom-ed out?

I figured I could schedule back to back to back Zoom calls just because I wasn’t leaving the comfort of my home, but, as it turns out, my introvert tendencies still apply to the virtual world.

I.e. I need time to retreat and rest and recharge.

Anyway, I thought we could make something special to end the week with a toast.

This Spring Quinoa Primavera is a fresh 1-pot dish for warmer weather.

You need dry quinoa, dried herbs, frozen vegetables, and lots of lemon!

Breakfast birds nests made with oats and naturally sweetened with Medjool dates and banana. Fill them with almond milk yogurt and fresh fruit!

Breakfast Birds Nests (No Sugar-Added!) by Flora & Vino

I realized today that Easter is coming and it’s coming this Sunday, quarantine or no quarantine.

To be honest, I don’t usually do a ton of planning for Easter.

Historically it’s been a holiday where I sat back and waited for my invitation to a family dinner or a celebratory brunch.

However, with none of those items on the drop down menu this year, I thought we could use some plans.

Plans besides “nesting”, which is basically what I’ve been doing the past few weeks.

Tidying every square inch of my townhome to make it comfortable and livable for the foreseeable future.

But these plans do require nests.

Here’s an easy Easter inspired brunch recipe that would be so fun to make with your kids, your family, or your zoomies.

These Breakfast Birds Nests (No Sugar-Added!) are ready in just 10 minutes with 5 ingredients!

Purple Sweet Potato Cashew Butter Eggs stacked on a plate with a spoon of cashew butter and bowl of purple sweet potato purée in bowl

Hey guys, it’s April.

And it’s my birthday!!!

This honestly might go down as the strangest birthday in my personal history.

I made a point to get up and get dressed today to carpe diem the sh** out of the big 3-2.

After being serenaded by my virtual yoga class via zoom, I dawned the blue polka dot dress that I originally had purchased for a vineyard celebration.

So I’ve been sashaying around the house all day, literally all dressed up with nowhere to go.

I figured since we’re all staying home, we could practice some easy recipes for Easter with pretty colors!

These Purple Sweet Potato Cashew Butter Eggs are pretty in purple, packed with Stokes Purple® sweet potato purée, cashew butter, and dark chocolate.

No baking required, these easy eggs are perfect to make to share both physically or virtually this Easter!

Lemon Chia Bliss Balls

By Flora & Vino 2 Comments

Energy balls made with almond flour, dates, cashews, chia seeds, and plenty of lemon. Mix them up for a clean spring snack!

Lemon Chia Bliss Balls served in a bowl on top of parchment lined wooden board with lemons on the side, a bowl of chia seeds, a bowl of lemon zest, and a turquoise towel

Guys, it’s been a long freaking month.

I think it’s safe to say that March came in like a lion and went out like…a bigger lion.

I’ve been trying to prioritize making my home my sanctuary for the foreseeable future.

But, F&V wouldn’t be in business if there wasn’t a huge kitchen mess.

The towering kitchen mess today looked completely disproportionate to the sweet little bites it produced.

But hey, at least I have a stash of these Lemon Chia Bliss Balls to munch on in said sanctuary, yeah?

These sweet citrus energy bites are perfect to make ahead for a spring inspired snack!

Toasted Coconut Bird’s Nests

By Flora & Vino 2 Comments

Vegan “bird’s nests” made with dark chocolate, toasted coconut, and your favorite oval shaped candy. Perfect for a sweet Easter treat!

Toasted Coconut Bird's Nests served on plate with scattered jelly beans and toasted coconut and dark chocolate germs in spoon

Last night during a virtual game night with my friends, I recalled my career trajectory to where I am now.

From the time I was old enough to be asked, I told people that I wanted to be a writer.

After deciding that I wanted to be a writer, I couldn’t wait until I was older to have more life experiences.

I decided that I needed to do lots to be able to write lots and write it with authority, you know?

For the most part, this tended to be true.

Doing new things always inspired me to go home and scribble about them in my composition notebook journal.

Lately, though, being forced to stay in, I’m going inward to grab stories instead instead of going out.

And looking inward at my cabinets for pantry items to make sweet things with!

Luckily, you don’t need a lot of experience OR a lot of ingredients to make these Toasted Coconut Bird’s Nests.

They require just 3-ingredients for a simple sweet Easter treat!

Cauliflower Rice Veggie Burger Bowl

Cauliflower rice veggie burger bowl with your favorite toppings. Perfect for a quick plant-based freezer-friendly meal!

Cauliflower Rice Veggie Burger Bowl served in white bowl with avocado, hummus, and salsa

Happy Sunday.

Honestly, I’m acknowledging what day it is more for me than for you, because all of the days are starting to run together here.

We’re living through such a weird time!

I’ve always viewed home as my safe space, the place I come back to to recharge between work and adventures with friends.

But I never thought it would have to become my solo sanctuary for weeks on end.

Whenever my crazy starts to feel unbearable, I throw on my shoes and walk winding loops around my neighborhood.

I’m still training for my half marathon in December, so that’s a LOT of paved residential loops, friends!

Meanwhile, my freezer is doing just fine.

I’m keeping myself stocked with my favorites as much as possible so I can throw together fresh meals without frequent grocery trips!

This Cauliflower Rice Veggie Burger Bowl is currently on repeat here and I eat it almost daily for a quick power bowl.

It’s super versatile, so grab a cauliflower rice blend, your favorite veggie burger, and your favorite toppings.

Coconut Sugar Cream Pie

By Flora & Vino Leave a Comment

Healthier sugar cream pie made with a date-nut crust, young coconut cream filling, and whipped coconut topping. Perfect for a decadent dessert to share!

Coconut Sugar Cream Pie by Flora & Vino

When I was growing up my mom made a mean sugar cream pie.

What’s a sugar cream pie, you might ask?

Well, it’s sweet, rich, and decadent, with a creamed custard filling and a buttery pie crust.

My parents both grew up in Indiana where sugar cream pie is also known as Hoosier pie.

Sometimes when I get homesick (AKA RIGHT NOW) I crave that pie that my mom served in tiny slivers.

“A little bit will do you,” she’d say.

But I could go for a LOT right about now, how about you?

Why don’t we make this cozy Coconut Sugar Cream Pie that’s totally vegan, gluten-free, and naturally sweet?!

It’s made with just 8 ingredients for a sinfully sweet no-bake dessert made with fresh young coconut milk, coconut sugar, and a no-bake crust.

Carrot Cake Bliss Balls (Grain-Free!)

Carrot cake in bliss ball form! Energy bites packed with walnuts and carrots naturally sweet with dates and raisins. Perfect for meal prep!

Carrot Cake Bliss Balls (Grain-Free!) served in a bowl on a plate with grated carrot, walnuts, and cinnamon sticks with a bowl of shredded coconut by Flora & Vino

They say it takes 21 days to form a habit.

At the beginning of March I made myself a goal for the month to get outside for a 15 minute walk every day.

The idea: Lace up the sneakers, bound out the door, and walk.

It’s so liberating leaving my sometimes cluttered kitchen and mind at home while making large loops around my neighborhood complex.

I’m happy to report that half way through March I’m crushing it; with no missed days yet.

Usually I like taking my stroll first thing in the AM, but this week I’ve been rocking my sunset walks, sauntering around the block as the last rays of light hit the asphalt.

So make those healthy habits happen.

You know what else I made a habit recently?

These Carrot Cake Bliss Balls have all of the sweet notes of carrot cake rolled into a compact ball.

You just need 8-ingredients to make these Carrot Cake Bliss Balls that are grain-free, and naturally sweetened with dried fruit!

Superseed SunButter Stuffed Avocados by Flora & Vino

Once upon a time I stuffed an avocado with nut butter and Instagram went wild for it.

Do you remember?

It was a few years back when healthy fats were just becoming all the rage.

I shared them tentatively to my feed, unsure whether you guys would be obsessed or apprehensive.

The response was mostly in awe of this sultry savory combo.

So, what’s better than creamy peanut butter and avocado?

SunButter and avocado, that’s what, for a delicious nut-free variation that’s school-safe and allergen-friendly.

These Superseed SunButter Stuffed Avocados are the perfect compact snack packed with healthy fats, a little crunch, and a touch of sweetness.
