Let’s talk FUDGE.

When I was little my parents took us on a trip to Gatlinburg, Tennessee to see the Smoky Mountains.

Most notably during that trip, I remember riding the Sky Lift (these giant aerial cable cars that rode over the resort) purchasing my first three beanies babies (I know you’ve got some hiding in your closet!), and navigating the great outdoors.

We also got some of the first and best fudge I’ve ever tasted from a local fudge shop in the downtown area.

My parents carefully unwrapped the wax paper in our hotel, cut the dense sugary block into small rectangles, and handed out samples of Peanut Butter and Chocolate to my sister and me.

No words, friends.

The cliche “melts in your mouth” is the only semi-suitable description here.

Something I hoped to achieve in this Chocolate Fig Freezer Fudge.

Why You Should Make Freezer Fudge

Fudge has always been a vacation thing for me, a special occasion thing that doesn’t happen very often.

But what if it could be a little more commonplace?

The kind of treat you can grab from the freezer after an evening workout without any hesitation.

My version of fudge is a lot cleaner than that sinful fudge I first tasted in the Smokies, but still completely delicious and satisfying.

It uses only four ingredients that you probably already have in your cabinets.

This is Chocolate Fig Freezer Fudge!

What You Need to Make Chocolate Fig Freezer Fudge

I used nut butter, coconut oil, dried figs, and unsweetened cacao powder to make this ridiculously simple and indulgent treat.

Also, this Chocolate Fig Freezer Fudge only takes 5 minutes to mix up and an hour to set up, and that’s a whole lot faster than driving to Tennessee.

Unless, of course, you live there.

Lucky you!

Figs Are Underrated

Who else is loving figs right now?

I do a little happy dance every time I see their brown pear-shaped forms laid out in the produce section.

I look right and left while I scoop them into a bag by the handful, certain that everyone knows I’m “that girl”.

You know, the one who took all the fresh figs.

For shame.

You’ve Got to Try Figs and Chocolate

Lately, I’m loving the combination of figs and chocolate.

You’re going to be obsessed with the pairing in this dessert!

I love using dried fruit to sweeten my desserts as an alternative to added sugars, so I used dried figs in this Chocolate Fig Freezer Fudge.

If you can’t find dried figs, use another dried fruit that you have on hand, like dried apricots, dates, plumes, or a mixture.

How to Enjoy It

Enjoy this Chocolate Fig Freezer Fudge as a clean anytime dessert; not just for vacationing in the mountains.

The fudge will soften at room temperature, so store it in the freezer and serve it immediately after slicing.

I love to keep it in the freezer in pre-portioned blocks so that I can easily grab a healthy dessert whenever the mood strikes.

It’s perfect as a satisfying summer dessert when you want something sweet without turning on the oven and baking.

I hope you’ll try this fudge before summer is over!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup dried figs
  • 1 cup cashew butter (or sub any nut or seed butter of choice)
  • 1/3 cup coconut oil (or sub coconut butter if oil-free), melted
  • 1/2 cup raw cacao powder

Instructions

  1. Add all of the ingredients to a food processor and blend until smooth and sticky.
  2. Press the mixture into the bottom of a pan lined with parchment paper and place it in the freezer for one hour, or until it’s set.
  3. Remove the fudge from the freezer, then slice it into squares and serve it immediately!
  4. Store any leftover fudge in the freezer for up to one month.

Notes

Recipe heavily adapted from Minimalist Baker

If your dried fruit isn’t moist, soak it in boiling water for 10 minutes, then drain well and add to the blender for easier blending

Can we substitute the coconut butter with something else? For some reason I can’t stand the smell of coconut on desserts

This fudge looks absolutely delicious! However, I was wondering why there’s such a variation in the amount of coconut oil used?
