Easy and nutritious brownies made with black beans and SunButter that are oil-free, gluten-free, and naturally sweetened with only bananas and dates.
Who else has been baking up a quarantined storm lately?
Actually, it was literally thunder-storming as I recipe tested this recipe this past week.
April showers bring May brownies, that’s how it goes, right?
If you’ve been following me for a while you know that I’m not a *huge* dessert person.
I’m the kind of girl whose idea of dessert is haphazardly dunking dark chocolate chunks (the darker the better!) into tubs of SunButter when the mood strikes.
I know, I’m fancy.
But when I do DO dessert, I like to do it right!
Since we’re all home, I set out to create something chocolatey that is allergen-free, nutritious, and super tasty.
Can we talk about this epic No-Sugar-Added Black Bean Brownie stack?
Actually, forget the talk, let’s MAKE them.
You need a blender, a can of black beans, and some spotty bananas!
If you think you might like black bean brownies, you’ll like black bean brownies.
If you don’t think you’ll like black bean brownies, I bet you’ll still like black bean brownies.
Personally, I’ve always had a soft spot for baking with legumes.
It’s easy to love the way they effortlessly give baked goods that ooey-gooey slightly undercooked texture.
Not to mention that they’re an excellent source of protein and fiber to boost your sweet treats.

They add a fantastic fudge-factor to these brownies.
So friends, here are the deets.
These No-Sugar-Added Black Bean Brownies are vegan, oil-free, gluten-free, and refined sugar-free.
With, as the title suggests, no added sugar.
They’re naturally sweetened with just Medjool dates and ripe bananas!
Here’s what you need:
- bananas
- canned black beans
- Medjool dates
- cacao powder
- oat flour
- baking powder
- No-Sugar-Added SunButter
- unsweetened almond milk
- hemp hearts
That’s it!
The batter is made super moist with creamy No Sugar-Added SunButter without any added oils.
These brownies are also nut-free and ideal for anyone with a nut-free preferred sweet tooth!
Each square is protein rich thanks to a combination of sunflower seed butter, gluten-free oat flour, and hearty black beans.
To start the recipe, we add all of the wet ingredients to the blender and pulse until they’re well combined.
Next, add them to a large mixing bowl and sift in the flour, cacao powder, and baking powder.
Fold in the hemp hearts and you’re good to go!
The hardest part is spreading the batter out evenly in the pan, but it’s OK if you can’t get it perfect.
I like to sprinkle mine with extra hemp hearts on top for aesthetics; they look like sprinkles!
Try lining your pan with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
I used a 9x 13″ pan for slightly thinner brownies.
If you prefer thicker brownies, use a smaller pan and increase the bake time as needed to reach your desired texture!
Brownies are done when the edges start to pull away from the pan and the top looks slightly cracked.
Allow to cool slightly, then cut into squares and enjoy!
Enjoy these No-Sugar-Added Black Bean Blender Brownies with a tall glass of almond milk.
You should probably position the pan nearby so you can snag easily snag seconds, thirds, or fourths.
I promise you can’t taste the beans at all!
I topped mine with extra hemp hearts for more texture and protein.
Some other topping ideas are dark chocolate, cacao nibs, chopped nuts, or homemade frosting.
They’re perfect for sharing with your family, your besties, your kids, and yourself.
Because they’re made with only good-for-you ingredients, you can feel good eating them any time of day.
Enjoy!
