Spiced Orange Almond Protein Shakes

By Flora & Vino 3 Comments

Easy plant-based protein shakes combining sweet orange, creamy almond, and cozy spices with a warm inviting flavor to fuel your morning!

Spiced Orange Almond Protein Shakes served on blue paper with wooden board with orange halves and almonds

Remember in my last post when I warned you that a lot of orange things were headed your way?

Well, they’re here, and this recipe is quite literally, orange!

Although it’s almost “officially” fall, it’s been up to almost 80 every day here in Virginia, so I’m still craving shakes and smoothies to start my days.

The mixture of orange, almond butter, and subtle spice creates a wonderfully warm flavor oven though this recipe is of course, cold.

These Spiced Orange Almond Protein Shakes are the perfect easy breakfast or snack that taste like a creamsicle spiced up for fall.

Every morning growing up after hobbling down the stairs in my pink robe with a dazed expression on my face and my “crazy” hair, I poured a glass of orange juice.

Did anyone else make a habit of this, too?

My family and I used to say, between sips of OJ, that a day without orange juice was a day without sunshine.

I loved gulping down that golden orange liquid to begin the day on a sweet note.

Unless of course, the orange juice had pulp in it.

Detecting the texture of orange chunks while swallowing has always made me want to gag.

Who else is unabashedly team no pulp?

I’ve since gotten away from juices and tend more towards whole fruit consumption first thing in the morning because my body does better with lower sugar contents to avoid blood sugar crashes.

Morning scenes still mirror the old days though, only now I stumble down the stairs in a neutral robe (graduated colors from pink to black because #adulting) and pour myself a Spiced Orange Almond Protein Shake.

Plant-based bowl with oil-free sweet potato fries, asparagus, quinoa, and edamame topped with lemon tahini. Perfect for meal prep!

Sweet Potato Basil Quinoa Bowls served in a bowl and drizzled with Lemon Tahini with sweet potato fries on the side by Flora & Vino

Happy Friday, everyone!

How was your week?

Mine has been a whirlwind of people, places, and things with attending Expo East in Baltimore and I’m totally ready for some R + R this weekend.

Being an introvert, big events that require lots of talking and being constantly “on” can be challenging for me.

I like to think that I can fake the whole extrovert thing for a bit…until I can’t anymore and stare blankly at the constant stimulus around me like a goldfish in a giant mixing bowl.

Time to recharge and refuel.

Coming home to a big cozy meal helps, and these Sweet Potato Quinoa Bowls achieve that perfect balance of plant-based nourishment and comfort food.

Pass me a fry (or a dozen), will you?

Maple Walnut Bliss Balls

By Flora & Vino 3 Comments

4-ingredient Maple Walnut Bliss Balls with maple syrup and toasted walnuts! Perfect for meal prep and squashing hunger on cool autumn days.

Maple Walnut Bliss Balls rolled in maple sugar on white plates with dates and walnuts scattered

Clearly my energy ball situation is way ahead of my closet (and most other adult-ish things) this season!

My kitchen is all decked out in Maple Walnut Bliss Balls while my closet is still strewn with tank tops, shorts, and flip flops.

I really should go “seasonalize” my wardrobe for colder weather, but first things first, I want to share with you what happens when toasted walnuts, medjool dates, maple syrup, and oats get together…

It’s called Maple Walnut BLISS and you need to try it for fall.

Maybe even before you pull out the flannel and riding boots, OK?

You’re going to love these four ingredient treats that kind of look (and taste) like sugar dusted donut holes.

These easy to make bites are packed with protein, Omega-3s, and fiber!

The best way I can describe them to you is…they TASTE the way stepping into a mess of crunchy leaves under boots FEELS.

Quintessential fall.

Fruit-Free “Fake Out” Shakes

By Flora & Vino 3 Comments

Fruit-Free “Fake Out” Shakes are a salad in milkshake form. Low-sugar shakes that taste like dessert but are packed with veg and protein!

Fruit-Free "Fake Out" Shakes served in tall glasses topped with chocolate tahini and granola crumble by Flora & Vino

Hi, friends!

You’ve been loving my Banana Free Smoothie Bowls and Galaxy Bowls (Blue Galaxy Bowl & Green Galaxy Bowl) so today I’m  sharing this entirely fruit-free shake recipe.

While I do love fruit in my shakes, I can safely say that I don’t miss them in this one.

These creamy fruit-free shakes are all about low-sugar options when you’re not feeling you’re tutti fruitiest.

Sometimes I want more of a savory breakfast, especially if I hit the dark chocolate hard the night before, ya know?

I really didn’t know what to call this masterpiece because nothing seemed to accurately describe their awesome-ness.

Finally, a friend on Instagram suggested that I call them “Fake Out” Shakes because they look like dessert but are essentially a salad in milkshake form.

Brilliant.

These Fruit-Free “Fake Out” Shakes pack a whopping 2 cups of frozen veg in each serving, plus healthy fats and plenty of protein.

Can your salad boast that?

“Eggy” veggie chickpea salad sandwiches with nutritional yeast and “black salt”. Perfect on a sandwich, crackers, or by the spoonful.

"Eggy" Veggie Chickpea Salad Sandwiches sliced in half and served on parchment paper

Labor Day Weekend, WHAT?

Does anyone else feel like time is literally flying?

I think back to the hours I spent in high school complaining of boredom, staring up at the stark white ceiling from my pink quilted bed, wondering what the heck to do with my day.

Boredom.

Yawn.

Sometimes I wish I could experience it again, those hours that seemed to expand before me like an accordion of nothingness.

I don’t know about you guys, but time is pretty much the most precious thing to me in my adult life.

If plans fall through and there’s suddenly a gap in my full day, it feels like I won the lottery.

Dance parties in the kitchen ensue and Harper barks along.

But for the most part, friends, I remember how happy I am to be stuffing the hours I do have with chickpea salad sandwich trials.

I hope you’ll be able to “stuff” this recipe into your Labor Day Prep because it’s the perfect farewell to summer.

Let’s all slow down for a freakin’ minute and make these “Eggy” Veggie Chickpea Salad Sandwiches, shall we?

Sweet & Savory Macro Bowl

By Flora & Vino Leave a Comment

Sweet and savory macro bowl with butternut squash, quinoa, and kale with an oil-free lemon tahini dressing. Perfect for meal prep!

Sweet & Savory Macro Bowls served in bowls with forks by Flora & Vino

Where did the summer go, friends?

I feel like I blinked and missed it.

Sure, we still technically have a month left according to the calendar, but as soon as September hits I know that warm weather days are numbered.

At the same time I do get all tingly when I think about crunchy fallen leaves, the inescapable pumpkin everything, and crisp cool autumn air.

I’m starting to add hints of fall to my food and my favorite combination lately has been this macro bowl

It has sweet baked butternut squash, toasty quinoa, salty olives, sauerkraut, creamy avocado, and a bright lemon tahini dressing.

If you’re not feeling the fall feels yet, allow this Sweet & Savory Macro Bowl to be the most seamless transition for you.

There’s such a strong sense of renewal that hits me in the fall, which is ironic, because I know everything is dying.

You can trace it back to my school days, when I equated colder weather to returning to school, and all of the anxiety, excitement, and preparation that went along with it.

This year, I always thought, I can be whoever I want to be.

Well, this bowl will give you all of the renewal you need to be a new and improved you.

I always feel 100% after I eat it.

This mix of probiotics, protein, healthy fats, and complex carbs seems to be everything my body craves around lunchtime.

And all the time.

I’m calling it now: this is going to be your favorite bowl going into fall.
