Lately, I’ve been all about simple snacks that require minimal effort but still feel satisfying and nourishing.

During seasons when cooking feels overwhelming, I find myself reaching for easy freezer treats again and again.

Not to mention a frozen treat is the best way to beat the summer heat. 

These Frozen SunButter Banana Bites were born out of one of those moments when I wanted something sweet, comforting, and made with simple ingredients.

They’re made with creamy SunButter, naturally sweet bananas, and a rich dark chocolate coating.

These bite-sized treats are the perfect balance of wholesome and decadent! 

They’re naturally vegan, gluten-free, and easy to keep stocked in the freezer for afternoon snacking, healthy desserts, or whenever a chocolate craving strikes.

Best of all, they come together with just a few simple ingredients and minimal prep time.

What You Need to Make Frozen SunButter Banana Bites

These Frozen SunButter Banana Bites come together with just a handful of simple ingredients.

They’re the perfect wholesome snack or dessert to keep stocked in your freezer.

You need ripe but firm bananas, Organic SunButter, dark chocolate chips, and a bit of optional coconut oil for smooth dipping.

That’s it!

A sprinkle of flaky sea salt is optional but highly recommended for balancing the sweetness and adding an irresistible finish.

Because these bites are naturally vegan and gluten-free, they’re an easy treat to share with family and friends.

How to Make Frozen SunButter Banana Bites

Start by slicing your bananas into even rounds.

Spread about a teaspoon of Organic SunButter onto half of the banana slices, then top with the remaining slices to create little banana sandwiches.

Arrange the sandwiches on a parchment-lined tray and freeze them until firm.

This step makes dipping much easier and helps everything hold together.

Once the banana bites are frozen, melt the chocolate chips with coconut oil until smooth and glossy.

Dip each banana sandwich into the chocolate, coating it fully or halfway, then return it to the tray.

Add a sprinkle of flaky sea salt, if desired.

Freeze the bites again until the chocolate is set, then enjoy straight from the freezer!

SunButter 

SunButter is made from roasted sunflower seeds and offers a creamy, nutty flavor that pairs perfectly with sweet bananas and rich dark chocolate.

I love using Organic SunButter in recipes because it’s naturally nut-free, making it a great option for schools, gatherings, and anyone avoiding peanuts or tree nuts.

It also adds healthy fats and plant-based protein, making these frozen bites a more satisfying snack.

For the best texture, use creamy SunButter rather than crunchy varieties.

Swaps and Substitutions

Don’t have SunButter?

No problem.

You can easily swap it for another creamy nut or seed butter like almond butter, peanut butter, cashew butter, or tahini.

For the chocolate coating, semi-sweet, dark, or dairy-free chocolate chips all work well.

You can also use chopped chocolate bars.

Feel free to customize the bites with toppings like shredded coconut, hemp hearts, chopped nuts, or colorful sprinkles before the chocolate sets.

Notes on Meal Prep

Once fully frozen, transfer the bites to an airtight container or freezer-safe bag and store them in the freezer for up to two months.

Description

Frozen SunButter Banana Bites made with bananas, creamy SunButter, and dark chocolate. An easy freezer snack that’s vegan and gluten-free.


Ingredients

  • 2 ripe but firm bananas, sliced into ¼-inch rounds
  • ¼ cup Organic SunButter
  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil (optional)
  • Flaky sea salt, for sprinkling (optional)

Instructions

  1. Line a small baking sheet or plate with parchment paper.
  2. Arrange half of the banana slices on the parchment. Top each slice with about 1 teaspoon SunButter.
  3. Place another banana slice on top to make little sandwiches. Transfer to the freezer for 30–45 minutes, until firm.
  4. Add the chocolate chips and coconut oil to a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 20-second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth.
  5. Remove the frozen banana sandwiches from the freezer and dip each one into the melted chocolate, coating completely or halfway.
  6. Return the bites to the parchment-lined tray and sprinkle with flaky salt, hemp hearts, or coconut if desired.
  7. Freeze for another 15–20 minutes until the chocolate is set.

This Thai Carrot Sweet Potato Soup is made on the stovetop with root vegetables and yellow curry paste blended with a spoonful of nut butter. I used a standing blender but you can also use an immersion blender to achieve the creamiest consistency.
