Vegan Valentine’s Day Recipe Round Up

By Flora & Vino Leave a Comment

Recipes that are easy to love and share with the ones you love; including date-night-in dinners, truffles, vegan cheesecakes, candies, and pink treats!

Vegan Valentine's Day Recipe Round Up by Flora & Vino

Last week, I talked to my friend about Valentine’s Day.

She’s kind of a hater, to put it bluntly.

While I usually jump on board with any reason to celebrate (especially during COVID!), I kind of get what she’s saying.

Why put so much commercial and societal pressure on *one* small day to celebrate all of the love in our lives?

It’s true, I think we should be expressing and acknowledging our love, and self-love, all year round.

Although, sometimes it’s the novelty of having a day set aside, one specifically to be grateful for all the love we’re fortunate enough to give and receive.

So, if you want to make some sweets and treats this February 14th, I won’t stop you.

In fact, I’ll make it super easy for you, with this recipe round up.

If you’re like me, you’re probably staying in this year to do the whole V-day thing, yeah?

Sure, we might make a fancier dinner, we might open a good bottle of red, and we *might* make a cute dessert to share.

In this Vegan Valentine’s Day Recipe Round Up, you’ll find a list of date-night-in dinners, truffles, vegan cheesecakes, candies, and plenty of pink and red sweets.

But, while you’re chowing down, remember that any evening has the potential to be romantic, and any day of the week is the right time to tell someone how much you care.

Finally, remember that sometimes the coziest, coveted memories are those spent in the company of friends, pets, or, yourself. …

Japanese Yam Rounds with Hummus & Sriracha

By Flora & Vino Leave a Comment

Oil-free baked Japanese yam rounds served with hummus and a drizzle of sriracha! This sweet and spicy combo is a great snack or appetizer!

Japanese Yam Rounds with Hummus & Sriracha served on a plate with microgreens and sesame seeds

It’s a big day here at F&V, guys.

Today, I’m getting a new dishwasher installed!

It’s true, I tend to be hard on dishwashers, demanding that they deal with dishes saturated from recipe testing.

However, in my defense, this dishwasher just wasn’t that great from the start.

It had a bit of a funky smell when I moved in that took ages to wear off and somehow the dishes managed to come out dirtier *after* a cleaning cycle.

Gross.

So here’s to hoping that the new dishwasher can keep up with me.

Anyway, the snack I’m sharing with you today is easy on the dishwasher, and on the assembly!

This oil-free, gluten-free, and vegan recipe is to assemble and even easier to devour.

The snack: Japanese Yam Rounds with Hummus & Sriracha!

The situation: It’s the perfect game time snack whether you’re playing Jackbox Games this weekend or watching the Super Bowl.

Vegan Raspberry Cheesecake

Vegan raspberry cheesecake with a gluten-free almond-oat crust, dairy-free cashew coconut cream cheese filling, and a tart raspberry topping.

Vegan Raspberry Cheesecake sliced on parchment paper and served on a plate with a piece missing and a fork by Flora & Vino

I’m writing to you today from bright snow-covered Virginia.

The snow started on Sunday and white stuff has been falling off and on since then for the last three days (it’s now Tuesday).

I dawned sapphire snowpants, my blue Northface down jacket, and a cerulean wool hat my sister knit me for Christmas to take my daily walk.

“The blueberry”, M and I fondly referred to the monochromatic ensemble, laughing as we made two sets of footprints in freshly fallen snow.

Yeah, you have to be pretty darn confident to rock that many shades of blue at the same time in public.

So I was feeling so conspicuous and cool that I decided to make my first snow angel in 15 years.

We staked out a fresh plot of snow away from the kids sledding and the half-built snowmen to imprint my likeness.

Have you made a snow angel recently?

I plopped down on my back and laid there for a second, feeling the cold clarity of the snow underneath me.

Guys, for a split second I wasn’t quite sure what to do.

Finally, I waved my arms and legs back and forth wildly, feeling snow shift around me in small mounds.

I stood up to admire my snow-art, giving M the thumbs up as he laughed, recording the ridiculousness on his phone.

It also snowed last week on M’s birthday!

Which brings me to my recipe for today; Vegan Raspberry Cheesecake.

It’s baked in the oven and made deliciously dairy-free with three layers!

Chocolate Covered Raspberry Chia Cups

By Flora & Vino Leave a Comment

Easy dark chocolate cups stuffed with a raspberry chia jam filling. Make them for a quick dessert or Valentine’s Day treat!

Chocolate Covered Raspberry Chia Cups stacked with raspberries and chopped chocolate by Flora & Vino

Lately, I’ve been contemplating love.

It’s almost Valentine’s Day and while I’m not out of the house much to see the teddy bears and flowers at the forefront of ever store, I feel the build up.

So my brain is all red roses, chocolate truffles, and candied hearts right now.

And I’ve been reframing and redefining what it means to truly love someone or something.

Because it’s more than the Oxford Dictionary’s “a great interest and pleasure in something” or “an intense feeling of deep affection”.

I think there’s a massive element of surrender involved, whether it’s to a hobby, a best friend, or a partner.

It’s to care endlessly and effortlessly without expectation, conditions, or control.

To adore just because; because you do, because you can, because you are…love.

Leaning into love doesn’t look or feel logical, whether it’s fondness for a passion, place, or person.

But then again, if we’re being honest, what did logic ever have to do with love?

It’s a hard but liberating thing to be that bold and unafraid with your heart of hearts.

What isn’t hard, however, is to fall truly madly deeply in love with this new dessert recipe.

You’re going to fall head over heels for these Chocolate Covered Raspberry Chia Cups.

Let’s be fearless with our feelings and make these easy dark chocolate cups are stuffed with a refined-sugar-free raspberry chia jam filling.

Simple and delicious vegan and gluten-free recipes that make plant-based meal prep easy, time efficient, and fun! Mix and match throughout the week!

Vegan Meal Prep Recipe Round Up by Flora & Vino

Hi, friends!

January is stereotypically the time of year of start plans.

New workouts, new diets, resolutely resolving to break bad habits and add healthy routines.

By now, you might have heard me talking about the cookbook that I’m working on.

The theme is Vegan Meal Prep and includes mix and match recipes for how to be plant-based even when life is crazy (which it always is– right?).

It’s funny, because I feel like I’m carefully crafting a product that I would  love to consume.

Meaning, that yes, I too, would covet a collection of vegan & gluten-free recipes that take the guesswork out of meal time.

So I’ve been working my way through the F&V archives, drawing inspiration from my favorite easy-to-prep plant-based recipes.

While making my meal prep list, I thought, why not share this resource with you guys, too?

If you’ve been here a while you know that all of the recipes on Flora & Vino are pretty darn simple with minimal ingredients.

Therefore, it could easily be argued that *all* F&V recipes are meal-prep-able.

However, there are definitely some that fit more conveniently into the meal prep lifestyle more than others!

In this Vegan Meal Prep Recipe Round Up you’ll find Grab & Go Breakfasts, Quick & Easy Lunches, Portable Snacks, Sheet Pan Meals, One-Pot Soups & Stews, Easy Dinners, and Fuss-Free Desserts.

Everything you need to make plant-based eating easy and fun all week long!

Cashew Butter Soba Noodle Stir Fry

By Flora & Vino 2 Comments

Simple stir-fry with buckwheat soba noodles and tender-crisp vegetables in a creamy cashew butter sauce. Perfect for a quick weeknight dinner!

Cashew Butter Soba Noodle Stir Fry served in bowl with sesame seeds by Flora & Vino

Lately I’ve been struggling with persistent nightmares.

It’s a little funny that at the ripe old age of 32, I’m plagued by bad dreams.

I wake up in bed, whimpering and writhing, uncertain what’s real and what’s a twisted tall-tale told by my subconscious.

Sometimes I say things, too, the words heavy like cement on my lips as I thrust them out in slurred sentences.

Occasionally I remember what was so terrifying– a loved one leaving, being chased by bad guys, or a new classic, finding myself in a crowded public space without a mask.

What never gets old, though, is the very real relief I feel after realizing that the dream was just a dream.

My reality instantly feels like something worth cherishing and celebrating, like something I’m seriously grateful to wake up to.

So, I’m blaming my less than restful beauty sleep on stress.

Yeah, it’s a little nerve-wracking running a business and writing a cookbook.

I know you’re probably busy, too, starting 2021.

So let me make dinner easy, comforting, and nutritious for us, OK?

Cracker Crusted Zucchini Fries

Oven- baked zucchini fries coated in cracker crumbs! These oil-free, gluten-free, and plant-based fries make a delicious appetizer or snack.

Cracker Crusted Zucchini Fries by Flora & Vino

Is it fry-day yet?

Wow, what a week it’s been.

Since we last spoke we have a new President of the United States.

It was snowing here while the Inauguration ceremony broadcast on my TV in all of it’s patriotic pomp and circumstance.

The giant white flakes flying across my peripheral vision felt symbolic of a brave new beginning.

My eyes welled up with tears as I watched Kamala Harris repeat the oath of office and become the first female, black, and south-Asian Vice President of the United States of America.

I squeezed M’s hand in recognition of such a pivotol moment of progress, for me, for us, for the world.

President Biden’s speech about unity left me optimistic and hopeful that we can get through all of this stuff- this heavy, hard, imperative, polarizing stuff- together.

If you’re feeling done with American politics and election coverage, that’s cool, because it’s snack time here at F&V.

Here’s to a new unity that I’ve been personally working on these past few week– crackers and zucchini.

Ditch the breading and make these Cracker Crusted Zucchini Fries that are grain-free and oil-free and made with just three ingredients!

Warm Kale Salad served on plate with Citrus Tahini and fork by Flora & Vino

Hi, friends.

It’s kind of a strange time of year.

The novelty of the new year has worn off and the next big holiday in sight is Valentine’s Day.

I’ve been hunkering down and working on the cookbook with the fire of a fast approaching manuscript deadline.

Honestly, the hardest part of cookbook recipe creation is keeping said recipes from you!

I’m so accustomed to the instant gratification of the blog posting process that hoarding all of this content feels downright miserly.

Which is why I’m letting one of the recipes slip through the cracks today…

This Warm Kale Salad with Citrus Tahini is my current, go-to lunch!

It’s served warm, and packed with complex carbs, plant-based protein, and a creamy, oil-free citrus tahini dressing.

So, if it can fuel me to write my first cookbook, I can’t wait to see what it does for you!

Blueberry Almond Protein Cookies

Blueberry almond protein cookies with almond butter, oats, and almond protein powder sweetened with banana. Perfect for meal prep!

Blueberry Almond Protein Cookies stacked with a bite out of one by Flora & Vino

Yesterday I went to a coffee shop for the first time since last March.

After a “best coffee in VA” google search and a 20-minute drive, M and I found ourselves at local roastery gem.

The minute I opened the door the rich smells of coffee beans washed over me like seeing a long lost friend.

And then, I did see a long lost friend.

I was examining the whole coffee beans in colorful bags when suddenly my friend Walt was there, too.

Walt graduated from yoga teacher training in the same group as me, so, we’ve been through a journey together far before the world was on fire from COVID.

It felt surprising and fortuitous to see a familiar face during a global pandemic at a shop I only popped in by chance.

Life is funny.

He looked different with a mask and longer hair but the easy conversation was the same and we talked about yoga, hiking, and of course, coffee.

I just started drinking coffee, again, guys, which I told Walt with raised eyebrows.

Lately I love getting up 6 AM and sipping on warm dark roast coffee with a splash of almond milk.

You know what’s absolutely fantastic with coffee?

Something a little sweet.

These Blueberry Almond Protein Cookies are the best way to start your day with a burst of protein!

You bring the coffee and I’ll bring the cookie recipe.

SunButter Cinnamon Smoothie by Flora & Vino

What are you watching right now?

I just started watching Bridgerton on Netflix and I’ve got to say; I’m kind of obsessed.

If you haven’t seen it yet, the best description I’ve heard so far is that it’s a mix between Gossip Girl and Jane Austen.

You’re intrigued now, aren’t you?

It takes place during the Regency era in England, where siblings of the powerful Bridgerton family search for love.

And drama ensues, of course.

Check it out!

It’s nice to have a new show to cozy up to at the end of short cold January days.

But during the daylight, let’s stay energized for the next Netflix marathon, OK?

This SunButter Cinnamon Smoothie is perfect to make for a light breakfast or quick snack!
