Tofu steaks pan-fried and coated in an apricot ginger sauce made with rehydrated apricots. Serve with rice and steamed green beans!

Apricot Ginger Tofu served in a bowl with green beans and white rice by Flora & Vino

You know the trope of the crazy cat lady?

Well, I’m teetering dangerously close to becoming the crazy plant lady.

If you think I’m joking, let me say that it has officially become “work” to water all of my plant babies.

But it feels like a healthy vice (forgive the oxymoron), because they oxygen to the air, they add color to the room, and they just make me smile, OK?

Or, so I tell M’s raised eyebrows as I lug in pot after pot from the local nursery.

My latest additions are a Bird of Paradise, Fiddle Leaf Fig, and a Rubber Tree.

Although they will be quite large (someday!), I bought them small, because the joy for me is in watching them grow.

That’s kind of why I love recipe testing and creating food too– it’s creating something from nothing.

I have a delicious sticky sweet and savory new recipe for you this week.

Pan-fried tofu smothered in a homemade Apricot Ginger sauce and served over jasmine rice and green beans.

This Apricot Ginger Tofu is begging to be served for dinner on the patio this spring and summer!

Have you made it away on your summer vacation yet?

I’ve been dreaming about…a totally extravagant…STAYCATION.

You know, the kind where you just sort of press pause on life and do ALL of those things that you never seem to have time to get done.

Yes, I dream big.

But someone will probably have to bar me from the kitchen for it to be at all effective…

Because next thing you know I’ll be 5 feet of dishes deep in a recipe with my camera in my hands.

These Tofu Steaks with Apricot Cucumber Mint Compote are my latest and greatest way to enjoy tofu this summer.

They’re complete with some serious grill marks,  a sweet four-ingredient compote, and fresh seasonal veg!

Lemon Pepper Tofu "Steaks" served on plates over quinoa with roasted asparagus and forks

Well hi, hi, hello!

I don’t know what’s gotten into me this week, but I’ve been all about routines and positive outlooks.

Somewhere along my 2018 journey I lost the structure that keeps my days and eats from all running together in one big MEAL.

This new protocol includes waking up early, sweating a little before breakfast, and taking time to check in with myself mentally and physically before the day begins.

Somehow, these little steps instantly take my mindset from stressed to strengthened.

It’s contagious, so watch out.

The good vibes are coming for you, too!

Starting with this delicious Lemon Pepper Tofu that comes together in 30 minutes for a delicious plant-based entree. …

Tofu steaks glazed with a rosemary balsamic reduction in just 30 minutes. Serve with asparagus and quinoa for a plant-based dinner!

Rosemary Balsamic Glazed Tofu served on plates with asparagus and quinoa by Flora & Vino

Happy MAY!

How’s it going?

I’m preparing for an upcoming “sister getaway” with my sis this weekend in New York City!

She’s never been to the big apple and we vowed to make it happen this year.

So it’s May, the trip is imminent, and I’m dreaming about some of the eclectic eats we might stumble upon in the city.

Pass me a big bowl full of veggies drizzled in tahini and I’m a happy camper, but occasionally I do crave a more classic plating.

In the world of plants, this is sometimes hard to come by.

That’s why we need to add this Rosemary Balsamic Glazed Tofu with Asparagus to our plant-based dining repertoire!

It’s got the best oil-free, gluten-free glaze that comes together in less than 30 minutes for a hearty dinner spread.

Let’s go dine FINE.

Father’s Day Recipe Round Up with summer grilling, snacking, and dessert ideas that’s sure to impress all of the father figures in your life!

Father's Day Recipe Round Up by Flora & Vino

It’s almost dad’s day in the U.S., friends.

It occurred to me recently that I have a Mother’s Day Recipe Round Up but not one for Father’s Day.

How did that happen?!

To be fair, I think Mother’s Day has more hype surrounding food and food planning.

Right or wrong, I associate Mother’s Day with brunches, breakfasts, and desserts and Father’s Day with outdoor summer adventuring.

That’s probably because I’m used to Mother’s Day brunch and Father’s Day fishing trip.

But that doesn’t mean that dear old dad doesn’t want a bite to eat on his day, too!

To make amends, I grouped together a list of recipes that would be delicious to enjoy with dad this year.

Whether it’s grilling outside, snacking indoors, or sharing dessert with the family, this recipe round up his something summer-y they’ll love.

In this Father’s Day Recipe Round Up, you’ll find easy summer grilling, snacking, and dessert recipes that are sure to impress all of the father figures in your life.

By Flora & Vino 19 Comments

Simple and delicious vegan and gluten-free recipes that make plant-based meal prep easy, time efficient, and fun! Mix and match throughout the week!

Vegan Meal Prep Recipe Round Up by Flora & Vino

Hi, friends!

January is stereotypically the time of year of start plans.

New workouts, new diets, resolutely resolving to break bad habits and add healthy routines.

By now, you might have heard me talking about the cookbook that I’m working on.

The theme is Vegan Meal Prep and includes mix and match recipes for how to be plant-based even when life is crazy (which it always is– right?).

It’s funny, because I feel like I’m carefully crafting a product that I would  love to consume.

Meaning, that yes, I too, would covet a collection of vegan & gluten-free recipes that take the guesswork out of meal time.

So I’ve been working my way through the F&V archives, drawing inspiration from my favorite easy-to-prep plant-based recipes.

While making my meal prep list, I thought, why not share this resource with you guys, too?

If you’ve been here a while you know that all of the recipes on Flora & Vino are pretty darn simple with minimal ingredients.

Therefore, it could easily be argued that *all* F&V recipes are meal-prep-able.

However, there are definitely some that fit more conveniently into the meal prep lifestyle more than others!

In this Vegan Meal Prep Recipe Round Up you’ll find Grab & Go Breakfasts, Quick & Easy Lunches, Portable Snacks, Sheet Pan Meals, One-Pot Soups & Stews, Easy Dinners, and Fuss-Free Desserts.

Everything you need to make plant-based eating easy and fun all week long!

Miso Mushroom Soup

By Flora & Vino 2 Comments

Simple vegan and gluten-free miso soup made with mixed mushrooms, tofu, organic shiro miso and greens. Serve as a side soup or light dinner!

Miso Mushroom Soup served in bowls with scattered green onion and mushrooms by Flora & Vino

Happy December, friends.

How was your Thanksgiving?

It was different this year, yeah?

I definitely teared up when I saw the Macy’s parade broadcast on the TV on Thanksgiving Day.

It’s the most ordinary and normal things that make my heart swell and my heart ache, lately.

But I had a really special holiday with the best food and company that I’m oh so grateful for.

I’m still working my way through leftovers and coming down from that holiday high.

We won’t be down long, though, because Christmas is just 25 short days away.

My evergreen wreath is already hanging against my brick red front door in a festive complementary color scheme.

I’m getting a miniature Christmas tree sometime this week to perch in my living room and cover in all of my childhood ornaments.

I’ve been craving some simpler, lighter meals to balance things out after a heavier holiday feast.

It’s getting colder here in Virginia, so I thought we could cozy up to a bowl of Miso Mushroom Soup.

This vegan and gluten-free take on the classic ensures each spoonful is teeming with umami flavor and mushrooms.

Roasted Cabbage Steaks served over quinoa with tahini, walnuts, and herbs by Flora and Vino

Happy Thanksgiving Eve, friends!

How are you preparing for the big day?

It just hit me this week that this is the first Thanksgiving ever that I will prepare the entire meal by myself.

At first it seemed a little sad-ish, but then it became super exciting.

This year looks a little different, but let’s choose to see it as a chance to make the holidays literally whatever we want them to be.

It’s the perfect opportunity to start and solidify new traditions.

I’m taking off work today, and planning to spend most of the day tackling all of the Thanksgiving side dishes for tomorrow.

My refrigerator is packed with produce, and I can’t wait to coax everything into a cohesive meal.

I know you’re probably saturated right now with holiday dishes, but I wanted to share something with you today that you can bookmark for all winter long.

These Roasted Cabbage Steaks are the perfect, cozy, plant-based meal for colder weather!

Now more than ever, I figure we could use some solid subs, yeah?
