By Flora & Vino Leave a Comment

Fourth of July recipe round up featuring vegan and gluten-free mains, sides, and no-bake desserts with plenty of red, white, and blue options!

Fourth of July Recipe Round Up by Flora & Vino

It’s getting hot here, friends.

This week is in the 90’s which makes me grateful that my community pool is *finally* open.

I dawned the orange and yellow striped bikini that I purchased for 2020 and then never wore to the pool for the first time this week.

My sister and I lay on beach towels draped over pool chairs, in awe of the strange normalcy of it all.

Going to the pool for the first time since 2019.

I felt naked to be have so much skin exposed, my belly button ring catching rays from the golden sun.

What normal things have YOU been doing this summer?

I’m hoping to see some fireworks for the Fourth of July.

If you need me I’ll be at a local vineyard nestled on top of a mountain, sipping wine and watching the skyline light up with exploding colors.

But we can also make some taste explosions at home, yeah?

In this Fourth of July Recipe Round Up I’m sharing some of my favorite vegan and gluten-free recipes for a barbecue or cookout.

Mix and match these plant-based mains, sides, no-bakes desserts, dips, and drinks to create your edible fireworks!

Memorial Day Recipe Round-Up

By Flora & Vino Leave a Comment

Memorial Day vegan and gluten-free mains, side dishes, and no-bake desserts that are perfect for a plant-based cookout or BBQ this summer!

Memorial Day Recipe Round-Up by Flora & Vino

This past weekend I went camping for the first time in a tent.

The first night I hardly slept, tossing and turning on our air mattress, amazed that nature could be so deafeningly loud.

The second night, I slept much better, maybe because I grew more comfortable in my surroundings or maybe just because I was too darn tired.

Anyway, I wasn’t sure what to expect from the whole experience.

I never grew up camping, so I just kind of assumed camping wasn’t for me.

But, man, was I wrong; I loved it.

Sitting around the campfire telling stories, eating chili reheated over a camp cooktop, watching the flames lick the wooden logs.

I felt totally unplugged and yet left recharged, surrounded by friends who feel like family against a comforting backdrop of nature and community.

And since this was my first real camping trip, it was also my first ever real s’mores.

My friend Anna showed me how to brown the marshmallow on all sides before smushing it on a square of dark chocolate between graham crackers.

We captured my post-s’mores smile in a photo to commemorate the moment; my eyes closed in marshmallow rapture.

With all of the excitement of my trip last weekend, I almost forgot that next weekend is Memorial Day.

In this Memorial Day Recipe Round-Up post I’m sharing some of my favorite vegan and gluten-free recipes for a cookout.

Mix and match these plant-based mains, sides, no-bakes desserts, dips, and drinks to create your own cookout menu!

SunButter & Jelly Brownies

By Flora & Vino 4 Comments

Grain-free vegan brownies with a decadent SunButter & jelly swirl made with organic sunflower seed butter and homemade strawberry chia jam.

SunButter & Jelly Brownies cut into squares on parchment paper with a knife

OK, let’s catch up because it’s been a minute since we’ve chatted.

Since I last wrote to you, I submitted my third round of cookbook edits and the manuscript is officially out of my hands and in the very capable hands of copy editors.

Woo-freakin-hoo!

I also received my second COVID vaccine and was totally wiped out for the following day.

Feeling shaking and immobile, I spent most of the day curled up in my favorite recliner, journaling, brainstorming, and dreaming of the future for me and F&V.

Thinking beyond my daily TO-DOs, beyond the cookbook, beyond the pandemic.

What’s next?

Well, these SunButter & Jelly Brownies are next for you, boo.

They’re entirely grain-free and refined-sugar-free with a swirly SunButter and homemade jelly top.

I mean, what’s better than combining PB&J and brownies?

Mother’s Day Recipe Round Up

By Flora & Vino Leave a Comment

A collection of easy vegan and gluten-free spring breakfast, brunch, and dessert recipes that’s sure to impress all of the mother figures in your life!

Hi, friends!

Today my Saturday project was potting a set of four red begonias that my community was gifting to all residents.

I decided to put them on the front steps in two pots, two plants per pot, one pot on either side of the cement steps.

To be honest, these are the first flowers that I’ve ever potted myself.

So I felt pretty adult dawning gardening gloves and packing potting soil around flimsy scarlet petals.

And flowers made me think of mom, because on Mother’s Day usually flowers are my thing.

(I may or may not have called my parents for potting advice, because parental input > Google.)

Even before the pandemic, I liked to send my my mom a bright bouquet of flowers to say, hey, I’m thinking of you.

This year, I thought I’d be creative and group together a list of themed recipes that would be delicious to enjoy with mom or in her honor!

In this Mother’s Day Recipe Round Up, you’ll find easy spring breakfast, brunch, and dessert recipes that are sure to impress all of the mother figures in your life.

30 Earth Day Recipes

April 22, 2021 By Flora & Vino Leave a Comment

A collection of plant-based recipes that aim to reduce food and plastic waste. They’re good for you and the Earth. Happy Earth Day!

Hey, it’s me again, and it’s still Earth Day.

You might have just seen my post earlier today on my 16 Sustainable Swaps, where I share my favorite products and methods to help ease my carbon footprint.

Silicone bags and reusable paper towels aside, we can also make a huge difference by simply bringing less product packaging into our homes!

Much of this comes in the form of pre-packaged foods and convenience items that we can easily recreate at home.

In this Earth Day Recipes post, I’m sharing a resource of my favorite homemade recipes to cut back on plastic purchasing.

By making nut butters, dips, jams, granolas, dog treats, bars, bites, and drinks at home, we can make a big dent in our plastic problem.

While it may not be feasible to make *all* of these yourself *all* of the time, every little bit helps.

Pick one or two f these easy vegan and gluten-free recipes to add into your weekly rotation.

Who knows, they might become a new staple for you!

16 Sustainable Swaps

By Flora & Vino Leave a Comment

A collection of my favorite sustainable swaps to inspire small intentional changes that are better for you and the planet. Happy Earth Day!

Earth Day feels a little like Valentine’s Day– like, shouldn’t *every* day be Earth Day?

Still, I wanted to share something for the occasion.

I’m the first to admit that I’ve made many decisions out of convenience and habit rather than a conscious commitment to the betterment of the planet.

Having M around has made me even more conscious of my choices.

He’s always the first to grab a silicone bag instead of plastic, eat the sad-looking vegetables in the fridge, or open a window instead of turning on the AC.

Earth Day can feel a bit overwhelming to me; anyone else?

It’s annual check in where I’m reminded of the size of my personal carbon footprint.

But instead of shaming ourselves for everything we *aren’t* doing, let’s focus on the little changes we *are* doing and the positive impact they promote.

In this post I’m sharing the small sustainable swaps that I’m currently loving.

Check them out and see if they might fit into your lifestyle and bring you joy, too.

Happy Earth Day!

Everything Granola Bites

By Flora & Vino Leave a Comment

Everything Granola Bites with SunButter, chia seeds, coconut, cacao nibs, and a hidden granola crunch!  Perfect for a quick portable snack!

Everything Granola Bites served in bowl with bite out of one with spoon of SunButter in the corner and granola scattered with blue towel

This past week M and I built a tent in my living room.

A mass of lime green nylon, woven mesh, and sturdy poles erected into a dome in under ten minutes.

As the weather gets warmer, I’m dreaming of summer adventures.

It’s been forever since I slept away from home, and I’m itching to pack up the car with my new camping gear and explore.

Do you like camping?

M will tell you that I’ve never *really* been camping, which is partially true.

I guess I’ve been *glamping*, i.e. sleeping in a camp cabin, with four walls and a roof and a screened in door.

So maybe I’m romanticizing all of it– sleeping under the stars, s’mores, and basking in forest sunlight.

But I think there’s the chance to make a camper out of me, yet.

Everything is starting to feel more and more possible– as people become vaccinated, as the book comes closer to a close, as my camping set is complete.

I’ve also been thinking about easy food to make while in the great outdoors, starting with easy snacks.

These Everything Granola Bites are a great portable snack to make in advance for all of your adventuring this year.

They’re made no-bake with simple ingredients that will fuel all of your summer fun!

Vegan Easter Recipe Round Up

By Flora & Vino 1 Comment

A collection of spring-inspired recipes that are perfect for Easter! Everything from bright breakfasts to healthier Easter candy to spring dinner spreads.

Vegan Easter Recipe Round Up by Flora & Vino

Lately I’ve been thinking a *lot* about Spring-cleaning.

It’s been a universal theme lately in my circles, popping up on podcast episodes, in yoga sessions, and in my group texts.

Clearing out the old junk and making room for the new.

I always feel raw and reborn in the Spring-time, emerging from a winter cocoon with pasty legs sticking out of flowing floral springs skirts and dresses.

Yesterday I saw friends and family I hadn’t seen in person in over a year, which in itself was a rebirth, a sense of returning and renewal.

As I air-hugged goodbye, I felt hope that with this renewal, maybe air-hugging will soon be a thing of the past.

But until then I’ll close the distance between you and me the way I know best, with some delicious recipes.

I can’t quite believe how early Easter is this year– it’s in the first week of April!

I love how Easter marks the beginning of Spring, the kick off for bountiful bright farmer’s market produce, and of colorful candies and treats.

This Vegan Easter Recipe Round Up will give you some fresh ideas for spring spreads, healthier Easter candy alternatives, and fresh desserts!

Mushroom Marinara Stuffed Collard Greens

By Flora & Vino Leave a Comment

Collard greens with mushrooms and vegan grounds, smothered in marinara, and baked to perfection. Perfect for an elevated plant-based dinner!

Mushroom Marinara Stuffed Collard Greens by Flora & Vino

Hi, friends.

Since we last spoke, I submitted my cookbook manuscript!

I hovered my computer cursor over the “send” button on the email to my publisher’s email, wavering.

When my index finger finally made contact with a *click*,  sweet relief washed over me.

The last few weeks have been a whirlwind of edits, formatting, and measurement conversions to match the publishing style guide.

Not to mention mixing and matching 60 recipes into a 6-week meal plan.

I shifted recipes back and forth across the weekly grid like puzzle pieces, waiting for that perfect fit.

On a Zoom this evening, my friend Laura asked me what I was doing to celebrate my cookbook submission.

I’m honestly torn between going to sleep at 6 PM and popping open a bottle of champagne.

Here’s a plan C– make these Mushroom Marinara Stuffed Collard Greens.

They feel fancy and elevated for a nice plant-based dinner at home with simple ingredients!

Let’s stuff some collard greens!

A collection of naturally green favorites from the blog, packed with matcha, avocado, and greens, to keep you from getting pinched on Saint Patrick’s Day!

Saint Patrick's Day Recipe Round Up by Flora & Vino

When I worked in an office I was *always* counting down the days until the next commercial holiday.

Something about celebrating them always made me feel closer to my colleagues and the world behind my dual monitors and stark white walls.

I put extra thought into my work attire, carefully selecting the emerald green skirt to be on theme.

In quarantine, I’ve been leaning on holidays, too, to give me something to look forward to through the tough times.

Birthdays, holidays, half-birthdays, food holidays– give me a good reason and I’ll celebrate it.

Well, it’s almost Saint Patrick’s Day!

This year, let’s eat something good and green, shall we?

In this Saint Patrick’s Day Recipe Round Up I share some of my favorite naturally green recipes from the blog.

They’re sure to give you food inspiration in a pinch and save you from (literally) getting pinched this Saint Patrick’s Day!
