Healthy Snacking

Raw Carrot Hummus

By Flora & Vino 6 Comments

Bright carrot hummus made oil-free and super creamy with tahini, lemon, and and seasonings. Perfect to make in advance for snacking!

Raw Carrot Hummus served in a bowl with two spoons and fresh herbs surrounded by crackers and carrots and chickpeas with lemon halves and raw carrots

As I type this my fingers are smarting.

Last night I dusted off my guitar for the first time since I moved to see if I still remembered how to play.

If you live next door to me, I sincerely apologize, because you might have heard me strumming and belting out Wonderwall at something close to 11 PM.

Oops.

I kind of forgot how much volume my acoustic guitar has.

The good news is that, yes, I do, in fact, remember how to make chords with my left hand and hold a pick in the right.

The bad news is that my fingertips do not remember the callouses that cushioned them back when I used to play with regularity.

So my fingers are pretty darn sore today, which I’m reminded of every time I press them into my MacBook Pro keyboard.

Luckily, it’s only my left hand, because my right hand is ready for snack time.

I’m excited to share this colorful new cracker and dip combo to make your snacking both pretty and delicious.

This Raw Carrot Hummus is ready in less than 10 minutes for easy snacking that’s raw, oil-free, and packed with nutrients!

By Flora & Vino 4 Comments

No-bake vegan macaroons made with blueberries, shredded coconut, and dark chocolate. Ready in under an hour for a quick and clean dessert!

Dark Chocolate Blueberry Macaroons by Flora & Vino

Earlier this year, before COVID-19 rocked the globe, I decided that this was going to be the year I was going to get back into live music.

I booked five concerts spread across the calendar with friends who shared my musical taste.

When the pandemic changed life as we know it, the cancellations slowly started to trickle into my email inbox.

So much for the year of concerts, I thought.

I have recently, though, rediscovered my love of listening to music.

Like, *really* listening.

Lately, I’ve been putting on an album in my living room and listening in a way I haven’t done since I got my first Backstreet Boys CD back in the day.

You know, really absorbing the lyrics and the melody and feeling it run through you from finger tips to toe tips.

The same way one devours Dark Chocolate Blueberry Macaroons.

You just need 6-ingredients to make these Dark Chocolate Blueberry Macaroons that are packed with blueberries, coconut, and dark chocolate!

Baked Tempeh Tots

By Flora & Vino 6 Comments

Baked tempeh tots seasoned with rosemary, thyme, and nutritional yeast with an almond flour breading. Perfect for a protein packed snack!

Baked Tempeh Tots by Flora & Vino

Do you guys own bikes?

I’ve been wanting to get one for years now but never seem to tuck away the money for it.

During quarantine, outdoor biking became a favorite activity in my social circles.

It’s the perfect way to experience the outdoors, social distance, and get some exercise, too.

So it occurred to me this past weekend that while I don’t have a new bike, I *do* have a bike.

The purple bike sitting in my parents’ garage that I last rode when I was 16.

So I called my parents and asked for my bright bike back, pretty please.

Last weekend my parents dropped off the bike at my place and ever since then I’ve been pedaling around my neighborhood, feeling buoyant and carefree.

These Baked Tempeh Tots also made me feel gleeful and childlike this week.

They’re an easy savory snack that’s packed with plant-based protein!

By Flora & Vino 2 Comments

Celebrate with birthday cake batter balls made with chickpeas, maple syrup, cashew butter, and sprinkles! Yes, they taste like b-day cake!

Birthday Cake Batter Chickpea Balls served on plates with a bowl of sprinkles

How was your Memorial Day?

Yesterday was a special day for me because I taught my first virtual yoga class!

Before you get mad at me for not inviting you, don’t!

It was a private class for my cousin and her husband.

They’ve been asking me to teach them since the beginning of quarantine and I kept finding reasons why it wasn’t the right time…

Yesterday I finally ran out of reasons and realized that my main reason was fear.

So I threw together a quick 30 minute sequence, threw my hair up in a bun, and showed up on Skype to teach.

In those 30 minutes, for the first time, I felt like a true yoga teacher, virtually guiding them through postures and breath and finally, savasana.

And if that isn’t reason to celebrate with this sweet new snack I have in store for you…

These Birthday Cake Batter Chickpea Balls will give you a reason to celebrate snack-time!

They’re vegan, gluten-free, grain-free, and refined sugar-free while still tasking like cake.

Grab your blender, a can of chickpeas, and some sprinkles and let’s celebrate because…it’s somebody’s birthday somewhere.

5-ingredient snack cookies made with chickpeas and cashew butter sweetened with maple syrup and apple sauce. Perfect for a quick snack or dessert!

Cashew Butter Chickpea Snack Cookies stacked on cookie sheet by Flora & Vino

Happy Sunday, friends!

Does anyone else have major dish washing fatigue right about now?

As if it wasn’t enough to eat every stinking meal at home, we have to clean all those pots and pans, too?

I’ve set aside some time today to *actually* meal prep.

If you’re thinking, but Lauren, why meal prep during a quarantine?

Well, it occurred to me chatting with friends this week that it might be better to make larger portions in advance rather than making small meals on the spot.

We might have the time and space free to cook and bake at home constantly, but do we really want to?

As much as the kitchen is my happy place, I have other happy places that I’m missing.

Luckily, the recipe I recommend you meal prep today is made with just one blender and a cookie sheet!

These Cashew Butter Chickpea Snack Cookies require only 6 pantry-friendly staples to bring them to your kitchen.

Grab a can of chickpeas and a big spoonful of cashew butter and let’s get into it.

Lemon Chia Bliss Balls

Energy balls made with almond flour, dates, cashews, chia seeds, and plenty of lemon. Mix them up for a clean spring snack!

Lemon Chia Bliss Balls served in a bowl on top of parchment lined wooden board with lemons on the side, a bowl of chia seeds, a bowl of lemon zest, and a turquoise towel

Guys, it’s been a long freaking month.

I think it’s safe to say that March came in like a lion and went out like…a bigger lion.

I’ve been trying to prioritize making my home my sanctuary for the foreseeable future.

But, F&V wouldn’t be in business if there wasn’t a huge kitchen mess.

The towering kitchen mess today looked completely disproportionate to the sweet little bites it produced.

But hey, at least I have a stash of these Lemon Chia Bliss Balls to munch on in said sanctuary, yeah?

These sweet citrus energy bites are perfect to make ahead for a spring inspired snack!

Carrot Cake Bliss Balls (Grain-Free!)

Carrot cake in bliss ball form! Energy bites packed with walnuts and carrots naturally sweet with dates and raisins. Perfect for meal prep!

Carrot Cake Bliss Balls (Grain-Free!) served in a bowl on a plate with grated carrot, walnuts, and cinnamon sticks with a bowl of shredded coconut by Flora & Vino

They say it takes 21 days to form a habit.

At the beginning of March I made myself a goal for the month to get outside for a 15 minute walk every day.

The idea: Lace up the sneakers, bound out the door, and walk.

It’s so liberating leaving my sometimes cluttered kitchen and mind at home while making large loops around my neighborhood complex.

I’m happy to report that half way through March I’m crushing it; with no missed days yet.

Usually I like taking my stroll first thing in the AM, but this week I’ve been rocking my sunset walks, sauntering around the block as the last rays of light hit the asphalt.

So make those healthy habits happen.

You know what else I made a habit recently?

These Carrot Cake Bliss Balls have all of the sweet notes of carrot cake rolled into a compact ball.

You just need 8-ingredients to make these Carrot Cake Bliss Balls that are grain-free, and naturally sweetened with dried fruit!

Once upon a time I stuffed an avocado with nut butter and Instagram went wild for it.
