Flora & Vino 2019 Holiday Gift Guide:

November 29, 2019 By Flora & Vino 1 Comment

A collection of my current 2019 favorites to inspire meaningful gift ideas for you and yours this holiday season. Happy holidays!

1. The Book of Awakening: ($12)

Reading from this book daily has brought so much value to my every day life. Mark Nepo draws from many traditions and voices to offer insight on what it means to be alive and live well. Each dated entry with thoughtful prose is follows by a mindfulness meditation exercise that inspires deep  self reflection and calm. I love to do a reading each morning to start my day mindfully. The perfect gift for anyone, anytime, anywhere.

2. Purely Pecans Sweet Potato Pecan Butter: ($10)

Pecan butter is so good! This alternative nut butter is made with 100% natural ingredients without any added oils or refined sugars in four drool-worthy flavors. My current favorite is the sweet potato because–I mean, sweet potato in pecan butter? Need I say more? This is the perfect gift for any nut butter addicts on your list.

Use VINO20 for 20% off!

3. Snake Plant: (N/A)

This year I became a self-proclaimed plant mom. After moving I bought several low maintenance plants to add some green to my living space. The snake plant is by far my favorite. It’s hardy and thriving despite the fact that I don’t really have a green thumb. Put a bow on the pot and gift a snake plant to anyone new to indoor plants.

4. Tom’s Womens Esme Boots: (~$100)

I’ve always been a fan of Tom’s classic shoes, but have you ever tried their boots? I stumbled upon these while searching for a boot that was both fashionable and super comfortable. Friends, I walk in these everywhere. They’re comfortable enough to walk in for hours while giving you a bit of height. They look great with skinny jeans or under flares! Check them out.

5. Synergy Organic Clothing: (~$40+)

I discovered Synergy Organic Clothing sold through Whole Foods this past year and quickly fell in love with their organic cotton clothing made with recycled poly and low impact dyes. The clothing delivers casual comfort and effortless ease while being eco-friendly and ethically sourced. I feel good about buying and wearing these pieces and love supporting this brand’s mission! My current favorite piece is Pause Cardigan. Give the gift of a gift card or pick out your favorite piece for someone you feel confident in sizing and dressing!

6. Madewell Ceremony Circle Ring: ($18)

I don’t wear a lot of jewelry on a regular basis but I’ve always been a ring person. This year I added this unique circle ring to my collection and I receive compliments on this year wherever I go! It wears well and has no tarnish or discoloration after months of wear and love. It’s the perfect affordable piece for the jewelry lover in your life. I like the gold finish but it also comes in silver!

7. Decoy Pinot Noir, Sonoma County: ($19)

I think I initially picked up Decoy Wine because I was drawn to the duck on the label, and I’m so glad I did. All of Decoy’s wines are smooth with superior taste at an affordable price. I always have a few on hand at home to open when entertaining; it’s my go-to wine I count on to be a crowd (and host) pleaser. Gift a bottle for a wine lover, your white elephant, or secret Santa!

8. EvolvH Ultrashine Moisture Shampoo & Conditioner Minis:

Making the change to cleaner hair care? EvolvH products are vegan, gluten-free, paraben-free, and cruelty-free while achieving salon performance. My favorite is the UltraShine Shampoo & Conditioner to balance moisture, add nourishment and deliver brilliant shine. Try gifting these minis as a stocking stuffer– they’re the perfect size to sample before committing to the full bottle!

Use Flora15 for 15% off!

($3)

9. Hu Kitchen Hunks Variety Pack : ($25)

If you follow my recipes you know that I use Hu Kitchen Chocolate in all of my desserts! So you should know that they have clean candy, too. These vegan and refined sugar-free chocolate covered candies without questionable ingredients are my latest obsession. My favorite is the Cashew + Vanilla Bean but you can’t go wrong with any bag! Perfect as a stocking stuffer for a chocolate lover or candy connoisseur!

10. Avocado Green Pillow: ($79)

When I made my recent move I decided to give my bedding an upgrade. If you haven’t checked out my review of Avocado Mattress, give it a click to read up on my love for this vegan mattress made safe, non-toxic, and eco-friendly with organic cotton and latex! And every good sleeping situation requires good pillows. These non-toxic pillows are made from GOLS organic certified latex and GOTS organic certified Kapok fill, wrapped in a GOTS organic certified cotton cover for a medium-plush feel. This is the perfect way to introduce friends and family to a safer greener sleep!

11. Vegan and Gluten-Free Red Apple Lipstick: ($23)

One of my “life goals” was finding a lipstick that I actually, you know, liked wearing. Vegan and gluten-free lipstick?! Check. These colorful tubes are also non-GMO, paraben-free, toxin-free, and cruelty-free, and fragrance-free. There’s a shade for every mood, and you can build up color opacity to create a natural or striking look. My favorite shade is Barcelona! Perfect as a stocking stuffer for a makeup junkie.

12. Pyrex 10 Piece Ultimate Food Storage Set: ($63)

I always get excited about plastic-free food storage. Just me? But truly, I rely on these containers on a daily basis with recipe leftovers, meal prep, and food transportation. The Pyrex® glass is dishwasher, microwave, refrigerator and oven safe and the silicone lids keep your food air tight! This is a great utilitarian gift for the whole family!

13. Petit Vour Beauty Box: (starts at $15/box)

My love. This monthly subscription box comes with several non-toxic, cruelty-free beauty picks that you are customized to your personal wants and needs. I love getting these samples because they allow you to try things in small quantity without purchasing a full size. This box has introduced me to some of my all-time favorites. Gift several months to anyone interested in cleaning up their beauty routine!

14. Wildway Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Granola: ($9)

I’m obsessed with this granola, guys, and that’s saying a lot, because I’ve tried quite a few ‘nolas over the years. This one is unlike any other on the market; all oil-free, gluten-free, grain-free, and sweetened with dates. Gift a bag or a variety flavor pack for the foodie on your holiday list! It’s excellent on yogurt, oatmeal, smoothie bowls, or by the handful. My current favorite flavor is the Dark Chocolate Sea Salt.

15. Solid Core New Member 2-Class Package: (~$35)

In March of 2019 I started my Solid Core journey and I was instantly hooked after I walked out of the studio hobbling and humbled. I’m now almost 100 classes strong! So, what IS Solid Core? It’s an intense full-body workout combining pilates and strength training through 50 minutes of slow and controlled resistance training. If you’re looking for a strength workout that consistently challenges but your mind and body, this is the class for you. Use FLORAVINO for $5 off your first 2-class package in the DMV!

16. Start Today Journal: ($20)

Ah, journaling. I’ve bought so many planners, journals, and goal-setting tools over the years, and they’re all collecting dust somewhere on my book shelf. Except this one. I love this one because it’s simple, straight-forward, and effective. By starting every day by setting your intentions you can make great strides in achieving your personal and professional goals. I highly recommend it for anyone looking to live a more intentional life and dream big. Gift for all of your big dreamers and goal getters!

IMAGINE YOUR STUFF SPONTANEOUSLY COMBUST. 🤣 - T IMAGINE YOUR STUFF SPONTANEOUSLY COMBUST. 🤣
-
This weekend I tackled cleaning and organizing a closet that I’d been avoiding. 🚪
-
It’s a spacious closet in my spare bedroom. It’s also the first place I put things I rarely use, storage stuff, and items that don’t have a home. Basically, it’s a giant walk-in “junk” drawer.
-
Over time, it’s gotten so full I could hardly open the door without a stuffed animal falling from the top shelf or stepping on a prickly Christmas wreath.
-
“Out of sight, out of mind,” I reasoned, keeping the door tightly shut. But I could feel the weight of the things through the walls. The cluttered closet had a pulse, a heaviness, a resistance.
-
I was listening to @theminimalists podcast this week— the topic was letting go of “sentimental” stuff. They bluntly posed the question, “How would you feel if all of the stuff spontaneously combust?”
-
I thought about my closet, POOF, gone, in the blink of an eye. All of the things in there that I couldn’t even name, no longer my responsibility. Imagining all of that stuff taken from me in a catastrophe outside of my control, I felt relief.
-
While I’m glad my closet didn’t *actually* implode, my reaction to the exercise made me realize that I needed to let go of some things to make space in my house, my head, and my heart.
-
So Saturday I shuffled through old stuff, filled boxes to donate, and stuffed trash bags. I didn’t let go of all of it, but it felt like a big step towards lightness and freedom.
-
If you’ve been following me for a while you know that I’m on a constant journey towards a more minimalistic life. It’s a constant journey. I donate, I buy, I purge, I collect, I clutter, I minimize.
-
I strive for everything I own to either have a purpose or bring me immense joy, and how can any possession do either buried under junk behind a shut door?
-
Today, I can walk into the closet unscathed and actually *see* my old high school yearbooks, two guitars, and toolboxes filled with paints and pencils from art school.
-
Do you have a closet or space like this too? What have you been holding onto that you need to let go of this week? Please share!

CHICKPEA & WILD RICE SOUP is new on the blog today CHICKPEA & WILD RICE SOUP is new on the blog today. 🍲 Perfect for fickle spring weather that’s cold one minute and warm the next. I grew up eating cans of chicken and wild rice soup so this is a vegan and gluten-free tribute to the classic! This chickpea & wild rice soup packed with garbanzo beans, wild rice, and savory herbs in a light broth. It’s your new favorite veg-packed soup staple for all year round!
-
Did you know that most wild rice out there isn’t *real* wild rice? In this soup recipe, I used @edenfoods Wild Rice. //#sponsored This gluten-free whole grain is hand harvested by the Minnesota Leech Lake band of Ojibwe, Native Americans, by canoe! In learning more about wild rice production, I discovered that much of the wild rice sold isn’t authentic. *True* wild rice is Native American hand harvested from the wild by canoe, and is wood fire parched!
-
Authentic wild harvested wild rice ranges in color, cooks in only 25 to 30 minutes, is light and fluffy, and has a rich and delicious flavor, unlike the machine harvested stuff that’s black brown, chewy, and takes forever to cook. Outside of its great flavor, and texture, @edenfoods wild rice is rich in B3 and manganese and is a great source of fiber, B1, B2, magnesium, and zinc! It’s amazing added to this soup to keep everything thick and hearty.
