By Flora & Vino 4 Comments

20 of my favorite pumpkin recipes that will get you excited for fall! Pumpkin is amazing in breakfast, bread, cookies, bowls, soups, and more!

This afternoon when I walked to the mailbox to collect the mail it just felt…fall-ish.

You know that feeling, right?

The sun seems softer and the days are just a little shorter and I love the lessening.

Even though it isn’t Labor Day yet, I’m already digging through the cabinets looking for last years’ pumpkin cans.

If you’re like me, you’re ready to turn all of your foods orange from pumpkin everything!

If you’re not a pumpkin-lover yet, I bet I this recipe round up can convert you.

(I’m still working on converting M, but I’m confident that this will be there year!)

Today I’m sharing 20 Pumpkin Recipes to Make Today.

And by today I mean, like, right now!

I *love* adding pumpkin to my recipes because it adds Vitamin A, fiber, and creaminess to vegan and gluten-free recipes.

20 Vegan “Back to School” Snack Ideas

By Flora & Vino Leave a Comment

20 of my favorite “Back to School” snack ideas that are easy, nutritious, and delicious for kids and adults alike. Sweet and savory selections included!

It’s almost September, which means it’s almost time for school buses to be back in service again.

I shared my “Back to School” nostalgia with M recently, reliving that anticipation of returning to something, new, exciting, and unknown.

Mom always took my sister and me “Back to School” shopping for new clothes and school supplies.

My absolute favorite was picking out pens, paper, and folders, organizing and re-organizing the colors and sizes in my backpack.

Even in adulthood, that feeling of “starting fresh” always hits me when long summer days turn into cool fall mornings and evenings.

I wish I could bottle that sense of newness, momentum, and expectancy in an elixir for bad days.

What are you going back to this fall?

Whether it’s work, school, hobbies, traveling, or workouts, or *yourself*, make sure you pack some healthy snacks along the way.

Today I’m sharing 20 Vegan “Back to School” Snack Ideas as a concise compilation of my favorite snacks!

I made this recipe round up with tiny humans in mind, but adults will love the options, too.

The collection is inspired by eats I had in my lunchbox as a kid, the snacks my mom made me after school, and the snacks I carry with me as a “big kid” today.

They’re all made with simple ingredients, nourishing to eat, and easy to pack in a lunchbox or serve before homework.

Bookmark this collection and come back to it whenever you need some vegan snack inspiration for yourself and your little ones!

Easy No-Bake Dessert Ideas

By Flora & Vino 3 Comments

A collection of no-bake dessert ideas that are perfect to make when it’s too for the oven. Included are cookies, bars, cups, truffles, brownies, and more.

Easy No-Bake Dessert Ideas by Flora & Vino

In Germany it’s really common to not have air conditioning at home.

So for the majority of my stay in Europe I went without the whir of the AC unit.

I was nervous at first, imagining sweat-soaked clothes and fanning myself incessantly with anything accessible.

But it wasn’t like that at all.

Honestly, I didn’t really miss it.

There was a beautiful breeze during the day with the windows open, and I got used to running around the house in shorts and a tank top.

In the evenings and early mornings I even had to throw on some layers because the temperature cooled down without the sun.

Except this ONE night that the kitchen got *really* hot.

Mostly because on this particular evening I decided to turn on the oven and do a lot of meal prep.

Sitting around the kitchen table in a sticky hot haze, I thought to myself, lesson learned.

So, maybe don’t do that.

Maybe make some of these Easy No-Bake Dessert Ideas instead!

We’re in the depths of summer so I thought it was a great time to share some of my favorite dessert recipes that, you guessed it, don’t require *any* baking!

Included in this post are no-bake cookies, bars, cups, pies & tarts, truffles & macaroons, brownies & fudge, stuffed & dipped desserts, and spoonable desserts.

There’s something for everyone in this collection so bookmark this post and reference it whenever you’re too (insert: hot, lazy, tired?) to bake!

Dark Chocolate Raspberry Blondies

By Flora & Vino 4 Comments

Dark chocolate raspberry blondies made with white beans! Bursting with fresh raspberries and dark chocolate chips. Perfect for a sweet treat.

Dark Chocolate Raspberry Blondies cut into squares on parchment paper with raspberries and chocolate chips scattered by Flora & Vino

This week it felt hard to leave my house.

Let’s be honest, it’s *so* much easier to stay home in sweatpants with my hair in a messy bun.

I’ve always been a bit of a home body, but the pandemic only reaffirmed the fact that my home is my sanctuary, my happy place, my safe space.

In my house, I’m completely in control.

I can work from home, workout from home, and dine from home, creating a menu and a routine and a rhythm.

But this week when I had the opportunity to try out a new yoga studio space, I mixed things up.

Although I felt a huge resistance to getting in the car and getting there, I’m so glad that I mustered up the courage and willpower to close the door and GO.

As I settled into down dog, breathing with 12 yogis in a collective courageous attempt to make space for ourselves during our crazy day, I was content.

*This* could be my new happy place, I thought.

So, I challenge you to make some time for yourself today, whenever you’re ready this post.

Do something different, something new, something that makes you a bit nervous.

<…insert awkward foodie transition…>

Why don’t you make Dark Chocolate Raspberry Blondies?!

You’re not going to believe that these dark chocolate raspberry blondies are made with…white beans!

They’re bursting with fresh berries and melty dark chocolate chips for the sweet treat you won’t know you needed until you TRY IT.

Are you a planner?

If you’ve been around here a while, you probably know that I am the plannerly-est of planners.

I’ve always gotten heart eyes over bulleted checklists, scrawling grocery lists, and color-coded calendars.

But lately my spreadsheets and planners and journals have been a bit out of control.

If I spend all of my time planning, I’ll never actually get to the *plan*, you know?

M is much more intuitive and fluid in his scheduling and actions.

It always amazes me how he can wake up and *not know* what’s going to happen; to do what feels good and not what a TO-DO list says TO DO.

The concept baffles me.

So I’m working on being a little less rigid in my expectations in myself, my day, and my time.

Luckily, this Vegan Brownie Batter Dip doesn’t require much planning.

In fact, I feel safe betting that you have most of the ingredients in your pantry already.

What do you wager?

Vegan & Gluten-Free Appetizer Round Up

By Flora & Vino 6 Comments

A collection of simple and delicious vegan and gluten-free appetizers that are perfect for at-home celebrations, dinner parties, and between meal munchies!

eggplant rounds with yogurt and pomegrante

I can’t quite believe there is less than one week left in 2020.

It feels like the year simultaneously took *forever* and yet  no time time at all, doesn’t it?

Half of me still feels frozen in March, hunkered down at home, canceling plans, hoarding frozen foods, and obsessively watching the news.

I’m starting to organize virtual plans for New Years Eve; maybe a game night or maybe just enjoying some bubbles and conversation with friends.

This time last year I was coordinating my dress, shoes, and hair for a girls night out with a group of fun gals in the city.

But just because the wild NYE parties are cancelled this year doesn’t mean the eats are.

This is the perfect opportunity to throw together a bunch of plant based apps to ring in the new year healthy and satisfied!

The  *one* thing I always struggled with at parties or gatherings was a lack of vegan appetizers.

I love creating them for the blog to show how easy it is to make plants, well…appetizing!

I’ve divided this listing into four categories: Dip & Spreads, Finger Food, Munchies, Small Plates, & Sweet Snacks so there’s something for everyone and ever occasion.

Many of the recipes are also oil-free, grain-free, and refined-sugar-free.

In this Vegan & Gluten-Free Appetizer Round Up you’ll find a listing of creative plant-based bites that you can snack on while socializing!

Pumpkin Apple Bake

//#ad// This post is brought to you by Bare Snacks, but all words and eats are my own. Thanks for supporting the sponsors that keep me hungry!

Pumpkin apple bake made with pumpkin puree and apples naturally sweetened with banana. Perfect for a breakfast or holiday side dish!

Pumpkin Apple Bake served in casserole dish with metal spoon topped with apple chips

My laptop has about the same birthday as Flora & Vino, the blog, circa January 2017.

Which means they’re both just on the verge of their fourth birthday.

So it’s actually kind of a miracle that the glowing lettered squares on my keyboard *just* started sticking this week.

Since last weekend the “y” and “l” keys require aggressive tap-tap-tapping with my index finger before they grace the cursor with their appearance.

Which, naturally, led to a whole heck of a lot of typos this week.

Guys, do you know just how many words contain a “y” and an “l”???

Too many.

You’d think with all of the food I photograph that a sticky spill might be the culprit, but I can’t pinpoint any instance of spillage.

Hm. I guess I need to make a visit to the tech store sometime soon.

Well, you know what else is sticky but a lot sweeter?

This Pumpkin Apple Bake that’s made with pumpkin puree and apples, sweetened with banana.

It’s excellent to whip up for a unique cold weather breakfast or holiday side!

50+ Vegan & Gluten-Free Holiday Recipes

November 22, 2020 By Flora & Vino 1 Comment

50+ vegan and gluten-free recipes that will bring some cheer this holiday season!  Mix and match to create the perfect festive spread.

Butternut Squash Pie with Almond Flour Crust by Flora & Vino

Hello, friends!

I honestly can’t believe that Thanksgiving is in less than one week.

But my wallet can, because I just placed a giant Whole Foods order for pick up tomorrow.

For the past few weeks I’ve been sharing holiday recipe inspiration on Instagram.

Thanksgiving sides, cozy plant-based mains, and festive desserts.

It might make you laugh that when it comes to planning my holiday menu, I use my own website as inspiration.

I fat finer key words like “holiday” and “thanksgiving” into the search box on Flora & Vino to see what I made in years past.

Then I eagerly point at the lead image to M, saying, “Ooooh, but we have to have this.”

During my search hassle, it occurred to me that it would be nice and convenient to have all of my holiday recipes in one place.

For you, dear friend, of course, but also, selfishly, for myself!

In this 50+ Vegan and Gluten-Free Holiday Recipes you’ll find plenty of plant-based inspiration for your holiday!

This is a concise list of holiday recipes, covering entrees, appetizers, snacks, sides, drinks, and desserts.

Let’s have a holiday.

Vegan Chocolate Peanut Butter Pudding

By Flora & Vino 7 Comments

Easy protein-packed red-bean based pudding that you can serve in 10 minutes. Packed with protein, fiber, and antioxidants to fuel your day!

Vegan Chocolate Peanut Butter Pudding served in mason jars topped with peanut butter and dark chocolate with two spoons by Flora & Vino

Story time.

Dan came up home from work while I was photographing pretty pudding cups and before he could even change I dropped my camera, picked up the closest pudding cup, and shoved it in his face aggressively asking, “Would you eat this???”

“Yeah,” he said, and I quote, “Looks like a dessert a restaurant would serve.”

Well, shucks, thanks, babe.

I smiled gleefully, because I’d definitely want to dine at the restaurant that serves Chocolate Peanut Butter Pudding Cups for dessert, wouldn’t you?

They only require 5 ingredients and 10 minutes for the perfect protein packed pudding that’s oil free, gluten free, and naturally sweetened!

It’s not exactly a secret that I love my bean-based desserts.

If you have any doubts, check out my dessert archives and go crazy over all of the chickpea cookies, and bean based brownies and blondies!

I just really like my desserts to pack a whole foods protein punch instead of being void of all nutritional value.

Legumes have this magical way of melting into recipes to take on sweet flavors while leaving all of their “beaniness” business behind.

Of course, when Dan found at that these pudding cups were bean-based, he wasn’t crazy about it, but that’s why you’ve got to tell people after they’re drooling, OK?

Or after they’re on pudding cup number two.

I love my Black Bean Blender Brownies  so much that I decided to lighten them up for spring in the form of a White Bean Blondie.

These too, are blender brownies, so throw everything in and blend, baby, blend.
